278 <br /> <br />August ~0~ ~9i~. <br /> <br />Referred by Board of Aldermen February E0th. <br /> <br /> Advisability of having the paid men of the Fire Department uniformed. <br /> It is recommended that the paid men of said Depa~rtment be uniformed at their own expense, <br />and that an ordinance be brought in to cover same, which shall take effect on its passage. <br /> <br />Fire <br /> <br /> It is recommended further <br />Department be adopted. <br /> <br />that <br /> <br />the attached rules and regulations for goyernment of the <br /> <br /> (sag, ned). ~. Slater, Jr., being referred to Finance Committee, and the recommended rules .and regulations for <br />government of the Fire Department, to Ordinance Committee. <br /> <br />Police-- <br /> <br />Hon. Board of Aldermen. <br /> <br />Gentlemen:-- Your Police Committee respectfully reports here- <br /> <br />in concerning the following matter referred to the Joint Police Committee July 9, 19lB: <br /> <br />Referred by Common Council July 9th. <br /> <br />Advisability of purchasing a police patrol wagon. <br /> It is recommended that an auto-patrol wagon be purchased for <br /> <br />(Si£med)o L. Privett~ <br /> <br />the Police Department. <br />Chairman B. of A. <br /> <br /> On motion, the report was ad~nted, .~m appr~oriation for the auto-patrol wagon being referred to <br />the Finance Committee. ~ <br /> UNFINIS~D BUSINESS. <br /> <br /> First. ~atters adopted by the Board of Aldermen July tSth and referred to the Common Council <br />for concurrence. <br /> <br /> To instruct the City Engineer to take charge of all street work done in the Seventh Ward of the <br />City. <br /> <br /> To'refer to Auditing Committee to investigate the present method of rendering~ ~oproving and <br />paying City bills~ and to report with recommendation regarding same. <br /> <br />To refer to Ferry Committee to investigate the present ferry facilities, &c. <br /> <br /> To appoint a Committee~of Five to confer with the B. M. A. in regard to getting the gunboat Sac- <br />rs~mento built at this Navy Yard. <br /> <br /> All of <br />Enginee~ to take <br />Street Committee <br /> <br />the above were concurred in, except the section with regard to instructing the City <br />charge of all street work in the Seventh Ward, which matter was referred to the <br />for examination and a full report concerning same. <br /> <br /> Second. Matters adopted by the Common Council August lSth and referred to the Board of Aldermen <br />for concurrence. <br /> <br /> To authorize the Presidents of the two branches to appoint three delegates <br />of American ~[u~icipalities~ at Buffalo September l$-lg-E0th; and to appoint five <br />the League of Virginia Munmcmpalm~mes at Alexandria September 17-lSth.- <br /> <br />to attend the League <br />delegates to attend <br /> <br /> To exempt the Park View fire company from payment of a license tax on a carnival to be held by <br />said company Septembe~ ~-14th. <br /> <br /> To require all ordinances submitted ~or adoption to be laid on the table ~Or ~hm~ty days, and <br />that the Clerk place in the hands of each Councilman a copy of pending ordinance as early as practi- <br />cable after the meeting at which they are presented. <br /> <br /> To instruct the Public Prope~vty Committee to go ahead with work of lowering floor at the Annex <br />Fire engine house, pending an additional appropriation of $100.00 for same. <br /> <br /> To instruct the City-Attorney to give <br />trators to settle the disputed question as <br />and Seventh ~ards. <br /> <br />opinion as to the legality of appointing a Board of Arbi- <br />to who should pay for rent of water hydrants in the Sixth <br /> <br /> To instruct the Chief of the Fire Department to ascertain whether the hose of the Union and An- <br />nex fire companies is in serviceable condition. <br /> <br />To authorize the Fire Committee to dispose of a balky horse at the Annex fire engine house, <br /> <br /> To instract the City Engineer to install ~he sewerage system on Randolph street, between Second <br />and Third~ out of appropriation already allowed for same. <br /> <br /> To refer to Finance Committee to provide an appropriation for a representative at the 15th In- <br />ternational Congress on Hygiene & Demography to be held in ~ashington September E$-P~th. <br /> <br /> To authorize the Treasurer to renew notes to amount of $78,000.00, due September 18, 19lB. <br /> <br /> With regard to the section to muthozize the~Public Property Committee to go ahead with work <br />of lowering floor at the Annex fire engine house, pending an additional appropriation of $100.00 for <br />same, Mr. Davis state.d that he objected to the appropriation, as he did not like the proposition to <br />~utho~ize a Committee to spend money in anticipation of appropriation for same. <br /> <br /> <br />
