October 15, 19i~. <br /> <br /> The following .ordinance ordered <br />body September l?th, was taken up and <br /> <br />to lie on the table for thirty days at rsgo. lar meeting of this <br /> adopted; <br /> AN ORDINANCE ALLOWING "STREET HANDS" TEN DAYS LEAVE <br /> <br />OF ABSENCE, WITH PAY, OUT OF T%~LVE CONSECUTIVE MONTHS OF CONTINUOUS EMPLOYmeNT. <br /> ('See Ordinance Book). <br /> And by the following vote: <br /> Ayes--Walker, Williams~ Moore, Langhorne, Ballentine, <br /> Privett, Montague, Markham, Davis, Murry, Nicholson, la. <br /> <br />Adams, <br /> <br />NEW BUSINESS. <br /> <br /> A communication was reeeived from the Chairman of the Street Committee regarding a current re- <br /> port that his Committee had ordered the doing of certain work for the City without being properly <br /> authorized therefor; and accompanying this communication was one from the City Engineer also concern- <br />.lng inspectisn, &c., of the Chestnut street paving. <br /> After the communication had been read, the Chairman of the Committee, who was present, was <br /> granted the privilege of the floor to explain further the position of the Committee in said matters. <br /> Some discussion took place between him and Er. Davis as to same, ~nd then the communication from the <br /> Chairman of the Street Eommittee was ordered to file and that from the City Engineer was referred to <br /> the Street Committee for examination and report. <br /> <br /> Mr. Davis offered th~ fo~lo~mng resolution, which was adopted: <br /> ~Be it resolved by the Board of <br />Aldermen, the Common branch concurring, that balances from below mentioned accounts in Cemetery ap- <br />propriation be transferred to accounts of Labor and Coal~ for coal, $~9:003 for Labor, <br /> Advertising, glO. lC; ~Tools, &c., ~15.00~ Shells, 67.50; Reoairs & Coal Box, $14.88; Inciaentals, <br />$40.00; Cleaning lots, $?~.00." " - <br /> <br /> He offered also the ~ollowing resolution: <br /> "Be it resolved by the Board of Alde~en, the Common <br />branch concurring, that the contract for repairs to Cemezery walls, be awarded to H. 0. The motions were adopted. <br /> <br /> · he Chairman of the Almshouse Co~mittee asked that his Co~ittee be authorized to advertise for <br />bids to furnish Almshouse.supplies for the winter, and th~ a~normty was granted by the following <br />vote: <br /> Ayes--~alker, Williams, Score, Langhorne, Ballentine, Adams, Privett, Eontague, ~arkham, <br /> Davis, ~urry, Nicholson, l~. <br /> <br /> On motion of Er. Mar~ha~ the attention of the Public Property Committee was called to condition <br />of stalls in the Hook and Labatt'house. <br /> <br /> Er. Uilli~ms~moved to refer to Street Committee the advisability of paving Cooke street, Park <br />View. The motion was adopted~ <br /> <br />Er. Langhorne ~oved that a Committee of Five be appointed to constitute a "Committee on Rules." <br /> The motion was adopted. <br /> <br />Mr. Langhorne moved that the Virginia Railway & Power Company be requested to put more cars on <br />th~ Gilmerton line, espeoiaily on Saturdays and Sundays, to meet the increase of travel on said line. <br /> The motion was adopted. <br /> <br /> Er. Montague moved that Said Company be requested to establish a station where the Gilmerton <br />m~ne crosses the Belt Line at the pla~t of the Oliver Refining Company, to accommodate the number <br /> passengers who take the cars.at that location. The motion was adopted. <br /> <br /> Mr. Williams moved tha~ said Company be requested also to put signs for direction on the sides <br />of cars, as well as on the front; and Mr. Davis moved that the Company be requested to give such il- <br />lumination for street lamps, residences and places of business as is called for by contract. <br /> The motions were adopted. <br /> <br />~ ~/~ ~ ~0n motion, adjourned. <br /> <br /> <br />
