FIRE DEPARTmeNT-- Mr. Markham. said that the recommended anoronriation of tHO0.00 for horsen shoeing was not enough~for the ourpose but $~E5.00, and he move~~ an additional appropriation of $E5. for same.~ The motion was adopted. A recommended ruie in regard to the manner in which bills should be handled was, on motion of Mr. Davis, amended so as to require bids to be obtained for supplies and award made for same to the lowest responsible bidder. Then the section of the rule relating to the bill simply was referred to the Committee on Rule~and the section in regard to increasing the authority of the Auditin~ Committee was referred to the Ordinance Committee. By general consent, the following other matters were transacted: On motion of ~r~. Parker, an anoropriation of $i00.00 to build a feed room for the Union Fire Company's house was referred to the Finance Committee. Mr. Davis moved to refer to the Finance Commie.s the cuestion of increase of salary for the Commonweal~ Attorney. Adopted. On motion of Mr. Markham, the advisability of creating a second Sergeant of Police was ~efer- red to the Police Committee. Mr. Hall moved to appoint a Committee of Pive, with the Mayor, of which Committee thePre:si- dents of the two branches are to be members, ~o-~co-operate with other bodies in the effort to make this harbor the chief oort of entry £or customs.
