Board of Aldermen. <br /> <br />Gentlemen:-- Your Public Property Committee respect- <br /> <br />~ulI? ~eports herein concerning the following matters referred to the Joint Public~ Property Commit~ <br /> <br />tee December lC-l?, 191E: <br /> Referred by Common Council December 10th. <br /> <br /> A petition of C. H. Jones to have remedied faulty condition of gutter on the west side of the · <br />Independent engine house. <br /> Narch 1B-igth your Committee recommended an appropriation of $900.00 for a general over- <br />hauling of the Independent engine house. This overhauling would have included an improvement in the <br />condition complained of by Nr. Jones, but the Finance Committee have so far not made the recommend- <br />ed appropriation and we are, therefore, without means to do this work. <br /> A communication from N. H. Codd in regard ~o the City ordinances requiring the market to be <br />closed at lB o'clock noon, except Saturdays. <br /> We have considered this matter and recommend that section 85 of the Ordinances concernin~g <br />market hours be referred to the Ordinance Committee for a change of said section so as to make the <br />market hours run until six o'clock p. m. daily, except Saturdays, instead of until lB o'clock m. as <br />at present. <br /> <br /> To ascertain why~otes for rent of market stalls are not in hands of the City Collector. <br /> We report t~at thes~ notes are now and have been for several weeks past, in possession of <br /> the City Collector. <br /> <br /> Some months ago the Councils adopted plans for the erection of a ~Nunic.ipal Building," <br />which plane included chairs for Councilmen in the Council Chamber and these chairs to be fastened <br />to the floor permanently. Since the adoption of the plans, the Committee have,sen convi$ced that.~ <br />fastening of the chairs to the floor might prove of great'inconvenienCe in the~'~ture and, therefore, <br />decided to recommend, and do recommend, an ~aba~do~ment of th~ plan of fastening the chaise and to <br />use instead a movable chair, with the provision that the movable chair shall cost no more t~han the <br />original permanent chair. Board of Aldermen. <br /> <br />Gentlemen:-~ Your Ferry Committee respectfully reports here, <br /> <br />in concerning the following matters referred to the Joint Ferry Committee December l0 and August <br /> <br />Referred by Common Council December 10~h. <br /> <br /> A request of The F~rries Company to be allowed to extend its ferry house on the Norfolk side <br />f~om Water street, to itm present location, at a cost o£ about.$~O,000.00. Progress as <br /> <br /> ~With City Attorney).
