The regular reports of Officers for the month of January, l~l~ were presented and were ordered to take th~ usual course. The following ordinance ordered~ to lie on the table by this body- January Blst, was taken up, read and adopted: · AN 0RDINANC~_ TO ACQUIRE BY O0NDz~TION~ ' CERTAIN PROPERTY SITUATED IN NOPJ~0LK COUNTY, VIRGINIA, OF WHICH M. C~rtain bids were received from the Sixth Ward Board for permanent improvements on High street in' the Sixth ~ard, and said bids were'referred to Street Committee~ A request w~s read from the Seventh Ward Board that .the contrac~ with Louis Lawson for combined concrete curb'and gutter ~ork be extended to amount of 1300 feet at $.~8 per lineal foot, and said · request was~refer~d~to the Street Committee. The Chairman of the Cemetery Committee asked for authority to advertise for bids to connect with sewerage waiting~.room-in Oak Grove cemetery, and the authority was granted. The~uestion of appropriation for imnrovement to Grimes Battery Gun Room was again raised ~nd, al' ' · . On motion, the matter was referred to Finance Committee. Mr. Langhorne asked to have made available $10~000.00 allowed in the "budget" for purchase of the "Phillips-Mahoney, property for a playground, and said matter was referred to Finance Committee. By the same, that the Public,Property Committee be requested to take early action towards im- provement in the Seaboard Market, and that the Finance Committee make available the appropriation allowed in the "budget" for same. ~ ~ On motions, the requests were granted. Mr. Murry moved that the Street Committee and City Attorney take up the question of advertising sale of franchise for layinga double.track on Hmoh"~ street westward~ The motion was adopted.
