Finance-- Hon. Board of Aldermen.
Gentlemen:-- Your Finance Committee

in concerning the following matters referred to the Joint Finance Committee January.18-21,
Referred by. Common CoUncil January 16th.

Recommitted. An appropriation of $5,000.00 to King's Daughters Hospital building.
This appropriation was referred back to the Committee to consider what.rights the City
would have in said building, &c. In accordanc~ ~erewith we have oomm~nicated with the "Hospital
Committee on Appropriation~from the City" and have received in reply the following from J. Davis
Reed, its Chairman. (See communication attached).
_ Therefore~ it ie recommendedthat said appropriation of $5,000.00 !the first instalmen~ of
the $15,900.00 asked to be appropriated in three years) be made for the hoepmtal, provided the Cmty
can retamn five (5) beds therein for its se=vice. (See communication from J. Davis Reed in regard
'to said recommendation).

respectfully reports h~re-
1913:

Recommitted. An appropriation of $7,500.00 for Grimes Battery Gun Room.
This appropriation was recommitted to the Finance Committee for additional information.
We beg to say that we recommended the appropriation because of a previous promise to do so in the
"budget~ for 1913.
~e ~eport that we are informed by Captain Brink~ey, of the Company, that an annual.sum of
SS, BO0.00 ~o $4,000.09 is.expended~in this_City by the Grmmes Battery, which appears to be a good in~
vestment; that the ex~ens~ve equipment of $100,000.00 place~ here by the U. S. Government wfll be re-
moved~ unless the app~o~oriation is made so that the equipment can be used and the Company drilled;
that if the equipment is removed the Company, having none, will be forced to disband.
The Finance Committee realizing these conditions and wishing to preserv& the Battery, but
recognizing the condition of the finances and that the money for this expenditure will have to be
bOXrowed as a special appropriation, submit the matter to your honorable body for your action.

Recommitted. An appropriation of $150.O0~for a house for the auto-patrol wagon. Progress as to same.

Reco_mmi~ted. An appropriation of $S,000.00 for police telephone service.
~e nave reconsidered'this matter and a~ain r~mm~d ~ ~h~ m~+~
