Board of Aldermen. <br /> <br /> · Gentlemen:~-- Your Fire <br /> <br /> Chairman B. of A. <br /> <br />the recommended appropriations being refer- <br /> <br />Committee respectfully reports herein con- <br /> <br />corning the following matters'referred to the Joint Fire Committee April 8-15 and March ll, i91~: <br /> <br /> Referred by Common Council April 8th. <br /> A request of the Fire Board for an appropriation of $4E5.00 ~o pay for uniforming paid men of <br />the Fir~ Department. <br /> It is recommended that the request of the Fire Board for an appropriation of $4B5.00 be <br />granted for the purpose. <br /> <br /> A petition of R. A. Alexander and other paid men of th~ Fire Department for am increase of pay. <br /> trois recommended thatan increase of $5~00 per month be made for all paid men of the Fire <br />Department. <br /> <br /> Advisability of pu~ting paid men of the Fire Department on the same basis as the Police Depart- <br /> ment, that is to say that they continue in office during good behavior. <br /> It is recommended that paid men of the Fire Department continue in office during their <br />terms of Eeod behavior. <br /> Referred by Board of Aldermen April 15th. <br /> <br /> Recommitted.~ Recommendation to place fire-alarm boxes at the corners of Green & Columbia, Jef- <br />ferson & Fifth, and Cooke & North streets; and ~o consider also other devices for protection from <br />fire. <br /> We report tha~ we do not consider that this matter belongs to 'the Fire Committee. <br /> <br /> Re fer~ed by Common Council March ltth. <br /> <br /> Authorized to advertise for bide to supply material for new work on the fire-alarm telegraph <br />System. <br />of New TorkWeGity,have SOforadVertised$l~ES?.OO.and have received one bid from The Gamewell Fire Alarm Telegraph Co. <br /> The Committee recommends that this bid be accepted, and that the amount allowed in the Bud- <br />get for said work be made available. <br /> <br />Authorized to advertise for bids to supply the Annex Fire Company with a bell. <br /> Progress as to same. <br /> <br /> It is further recommended that an appropriation of $?5.00 be made fcr purchase of land in <br />the rear of the Union House, out of the $i00.00 allowed in the Budget for same, in accordance with <br />the plans submitted for said land. <br /> <br /> It is further recommended that the Committee be authorized to advertise for bids to sell <br />a horse at~ached to the Chambers hose wagon and also a horse attached to the Park View engine. <br /> <br /> (Signed). Department. <br /> Mr. Williams contended that it should go back to the Fire Committee, and he moved that the mat- <br />te~ be referred back to the Committee for further consideration. Board of Aldermen. <br /> <br />Adams, Privett, <br /> <br /> Ayes--W~lker, Moore, <br />M°ntague, Markham~ Nutty, Pile, 11. <br /> <br /> Genttemen:-- Your Sewerage Committee respectfully reports <br />herein concerning the following matter referred to the Joint Sewerage.Committee April 8, 1~I$: <br /> <br /> Referred by Common Council April 8th. <br /> <br /> A communication from Winston Parrish and Bascom Sykes calling attention to the unsanitary con- <br />dition of certain colored tenement houses in Eastwood's Lane. <br /> We report that improvement to the condition complained of would be beet made by adopting <br />the recommendation of the Sewerage Committee November 1~-19~ 191~ that Hunter's and Eastwood's La~es <br />be sewered~ at a cost of $811.50 and $404.50~ respectively, and we now repeat said recommendation. <br /> <br /> We report further that we have ma~e the usual annual advertisement to supply the Sewer <br />Power House with coal, and have received one bid for same, from the Portsmouth Goal & Ice Co. to sup- <br />ply 700 tons of Pocahon~ae steam coal, S,O00 lbs. to the ton, ~stowed in bin, at $3.05 per ton. <br /> It is recommended that said bid'be accepted. <br /> <br />(Signed). <br /> <br />S. ~.
