<br /> On motion, the bills were referred to the Joint Finance COmmittee.

<br /> The Auditor requested that he be instructed as to which of theseveral ~treet Departments
<br />the balance in the "Repairs to Sidewalks" should be transferred.

<br /> . A communication was read from the Sheriff in regard to a circular ~ent him by the State

<br />Board of Charities and Correc zone, through the Council, concerning the discipline and govern-

<br /> On motion, the comm~unication was ordered to file.

<br /> A reply o% the Seventh Ward Board in regard te the claim of Ers. N~ L. Dozier and of the
<br />Water Company, referred to said Board by the Finance Committee September Sth, was ~ead and, on
<br />motion, ordered to file.

<br /> The bond of Frank Dunkum given for the removal of ~ight soil from the Sixth and Seventh
<br />Wards, was referred to the Finance Committee.

<br /> The Keeper of the Cemeteries made the mollow~ng report of lots and graves sold in the Oak

<br /> T~e "Italian Colony for Columbus Da~ invites this body to participate in the exercises of
<br />said 0olony October 12, 1911, being the &l?th anniversary of the discovery of America.
<br /> The said "Italian Colony" requests also per~ission to ereo~ a s~and for music on the court
<br />house green, and to have a part of the Fire Department to participate in their parade ~n that
<br />day.
<br /> The red, est was granted, and the thanks of the Council returned to the "Colony" for
<br />their invitation.
<br />
<br /> Mr. Brinson called attention to the fact that The Fe~2~es Company intended to use the
<br />folk County ferry boat for ferries purposes between Norfoik and Portsmouth ~ndNewpo=t News~ and
<br />he moved to refer the matter to the Ferry Oo~ittee, with the City Attorney, ~no=de~ to
<br />rain by what right said Company could use a ferry boat for. such purposes.
<br /> The motion was adopted.
<br />
<br /> The Ohairman of the Police Committee asked for authority to advertise £o= bids fo= an auto-
<br />patrol wagon and, on motion, the authority was g~.anted.
<br />
<br />A motion to ad$ourn was made, and was lost.
<br />
