Beisel, 9. <br /> <br /> The Joint Finance Oommittee presented the License Tax Ordinance, which was the same as the <br />~Ordinance" for 19il~lE,~with the following amendments thereto, viz: <br /> <br /> Section l, Par. l, to read-- ~Be it ordained by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Vir- <br />ginia, that for the year beginning May i, 1912, ~nd thereafter until annulled by ordinance, the <br />following occupations, acts and business transactions shall be deemed privileges and shall no~ <br />be pursued or done within the limits of said city of~Portsmouth, without payment of a license <br />tax therefor, and the license tax thereon shall be annually as follows:~ <br /> <br /> Section t8, to read-- "P~ddlers cf market produce, fresh mea~s or fish~ and venders of <br />fruits~ nuts, confectioneries, tea, coffee, sold on the streets or in other public places, ~0 <br />for each tray, basket, cart, dray, wagon, wheelbarrow, pushcart or other vehicle used." <br /> <br /> Section 17, to read-- "Any person, firm or corporation engaged in selling from wagons or <br />carts kerosene, gasoline, or other illuminating oils by wholesale, or both wholesale and retail, <br />shall pay a ~ax on $?B on each wagon or cart so used." <br /> <br />Section 58, to read-- "On each toll bridge or foot ferry, $50." <br /> <br /> Section 87. to re~d-- "On every theatreS or places ~here theatrical performances are usual- <br />ly held, $200, $S per Gay, S10 per week, or ,20 per month." <br /> <br /> Section 92, to read-- .on each billiard, pool or bagatelle table, ~20, and an additional <br />tax of $15 on each table in excess of one. But where such billiard, pool or bagatelle tables <br />are connected with a barroom, the tax shall be $50 for the first table and $E5. on each addition- <br />al table." <br /> <br /> Section 94, to read~ "Shooting galleries, each $50, $2.50 per week, or $15 per quarter." <br /> <br /> section 112, to read-- "Bill posters, hand bill and card distributors and sign tackers~ <br />each $~0, or $1 per day. This tax is not to apply to merchants in the City of Portsmouth for <br />advertising their business." <br /> <br /> <br />
