R. C. P. 'June 14~ 19!B~ 97, We have heretofore reported on the bell. It wil-1 cost ~!85.00, and an appropriation for same is now in the hands of the Finance Committee. The installation of the belt will require an additional appropriation of $~$0.00, and such an appropriation is recommended. Authorized To obtain modified plans and specifications for Grimes Battery ~gun-room. We have ascertained that the size of Grimes Battery gun-room may be increased, for $?,500'.00, and, in this connection~ we subinit the following letter from Stroud & Roane.con- cerning addition to said building. (Letter to file). ' Authorized to cancel policies on the Sixth and Seventh Ward fire engines. We have directed the insurers of the engines ~o cancel the polieies on same. Authorized to cut down an old sycamore tree on the ea~t side of the court house yard. We will have the work done at the proper time~ A communication from the Superintendent of The Ferries Company in regard to payment of a bill for $19.00, for lighting the City offices in the ferry building. We report that we are of the opinion that the City does not owe such bill, as The Fer- ries Company were to furnish lights~ janitor service, &c.~ included in the price per month paid for rooms in the ferry building. Requested to consider more seriously the use of glass fronts infire-ala~m boxes. The Committee are not fully satisfied of the necessity for glass fronts in fire-alarm boxes, but as there seems to be ~u insistant ~ressure for same, we recommend that glass fronts be put in alt fire-alarm boxes, at a cost of $8~.00~ and that the Ordinance Committee be instruc~ ed to prepare an ordinance to prohibit the giving of f&lse alarms of fire in any manner, and to provide a heavy penalty for violations of the ordinance.
