Moore moved that the recommendation to discontinue the <br /> "~White Way" after ~ay 31, 19!E be amended as follows: "Pending the installation of a cluster <br /> light 'system, we continue the present Wh.~te Way." The motion was adopted. <br /> ~hen Mr. Hawks moved the following amendment to the section in~rega=d~to the installation <br />of a cluster light system and cost of same: "That the Light Committee and the City Attorney be <br />instructed to prepare the form of a contract with the Virginia Railway & Power Company fo~ the <br />installation and maintenance of a "White Way System~ on High street, from Water to Chestnut, <br />said form of contract to be in accordance with the report o£ the Light Cqmmittee recently adopt- <br />ed by ~he Council, except that a time limit be named within which the system shall be completed <br />and pla~ed in operation, and that a forfeit be provided for failure to comply with said agree- <br />me~t. <br /> "That the Light Committee submit at the nex.t meeting of the Council the form of a contract <br />with the Virginia Railway & Power Company for the installation and maintenance of a cluster light <br />system on High street, from Water to Chestnut." <br /> Mr. Tyler moved, That the clause of the' Finance Committee,s report, recommending the in- <br />stallation of a cluster light system, be laid on the table until the next meeting of the Council, <br />and that the Light Committee be requested to ascertain if the system proposed will equal, as to <br />candle power, the system now used in the City of Richmond, Va..~ <br /> The motion by..Mr. Tyler was lost,.and the amendment by Mr. Hawks was adopted, <br /> Thin,the report of the Committee, as amended, was~adopted, and by the follbwing vote: <br /> Ayes--Halt, Benson, Parrish, Moore, Baker, Johnson, Heath, Brinson, <br /> Reynolds, Tyler, Hawks, Hutchins, Parker, Beissl, Cooke, 15. <br /> <br /> The recommended ordinance to authorize the issue of $100~000.00 of bonds for the City pro- <br />per, and $87,500.00 .of bonds for the Sixth. and Seventh Wards each, was adopted, and by the fol- <br />lowing vote: <br /> For the City Proper: <br /> Ayes--Hall, Benson, Parrish~ Moore, Baker, Johnson, <br /> Heath, Brinson, Reynolds, Tyler, Hawks, Hutohins, lB. <br /> For the Sixth and Seventh Wards: <br /> Ayes-- Hall, Benson, Parrish, Moore, Baker, Johnson, <br /> Heath, Brinson, Reynolds, Tyler, Hawks~ Hutchins, <br /> . Parker,~ Beisel, Cooke, 15. <br /> Mr. Baker said he understood that the Mayo~ had vetoed ~eso!uti0ns~ adopted May 14-~lst to <br />appropriate ~6,946.~5 for the pavement of Chestnut street, $5,000.00 to the Board of Water Com- <br />missioners, ~nd $7~500.00 for the extension of Dinwiddie street to Fifth, and as he desired to <br />retire for the evening, but as he would like to vote on the vetoes before leaving, he wo~ld re- <br />qUest~that the rules be suspended in order to consider said vetoea. On motion, the rules were suspended. <br /> The vetoes having been read, and the reasons therefor, (see records of the vetoes under the <br />head of "Unfinished Business~)the Chair put the question, Shall the' former action of the body on <br />these resolutions stand as recbrded, notwithstanding the veto of ~he Mayor to the contrary? <br /> ~Whereupon, on motion of $~.
