<br />Company for $?,0~0.53, as its proportion of cost for grading and lowering tracks in the Sixth

<br /> To 'instruct the City Attorney to advertise for bids for purchase of a franchise to lay a-
<br />nother · rack on High S~=eet, from Chestnut ~treet to Twelfthavenue. .
<br /> To instruct the Czty Attorney to acquire by.condemnation or otherwzse, the right of way
<br /> for Duke street, between Washington and.Green.

<br /> The following vetoes of the Mayor, ordered ~o lie on the tabl~ at the regular meeting July
<br />9th, were now called up: $1,000.00 to pave North street, between Crawford and Water, out of ap-
<br />propriation already made~ for Street Paving; $8,455.00 to~pave~First street, out of appropriation
<br />already made for Street Baying; and ~o make award to F. J. McGuire to lay ~0,000 sq. yds., more
<br />or less, of pavement in the Seventh Ward, at $1.17 per sq. yd.

<br /> The vetbes having been read, and the reasons therefor (see records Common Council, page
<br />107), the Chair put the question, "Shall the action of the body on. June 14th concer~i~g said
<br />resolmtions stand as recorded, notwithstanding the veto of the Mayor to the contrary..
<br /> Whereupon, the action of the Common Council on June 14th in adopting said resolutions,
<br />was sustained, and by the following votes:

<br /> Mr. Brinson called attention to the fact that the passage over the MaYor's veto of the two
<br /> items in regard to paving of North street and paving of First street made the recommendation of
<br /> the Finance Cormnittee in regard ~o same unnecessary, and he moved a suspension of the rules to
<br /> eliminate these two items from the report of said Committee.
<br /> The motion was adopted, and the sections referred to were ~liminate~.
<br /> Then the report~of the Finance Committee, as amended, was adopted, and by the follow-
<br /> ing vote:

<br /> Mr. Brinson stated that he was not present at the last meeting of the body, or he would
<br />have opposed the action in regard to appointing a Board of Arbitrators to settle the question
<br />between the-City proper and the Sixth and Seventh Wards as to who shouldpay for rent of. water
<br />hydrants in said Wards. He said that this satter had been settled as t.o its legality by the
<br />~%ty Attorney, who had given his written opinion that ~he Wards should pay for such hydrant
<br />~en%al, and he moved that the matter be reconsidered.
