To have plans made and advertise for bids to improve <br />Grime, Battery gun room. <br /> On motion, the matter was referred to the Public Property Committee to report later <br />on advisability of advertising for bids. <br /> <br /> A communication from Dr. J¢eei~h.A~-.Gu~hrie in regard to extending street car service to <br />Nest Park View was referred to Street Committee. <br /> <br /> A proposal of the Bank of Portsmouth to lay a granolithic pavement in front of its property <br />at High and Middle streets, if' the City will bear one-half of cost of the work, was referred to <br />the Street Committee for consideration. <br /> <br /> A communication was read from the Portsmouth Humane Society, in which it requested ~hat an <br /> ordinance be drafted requiring horses and mules to be blanketed during cold and wet weather. <br /> On motion, ~he communication was referred to the Ordinance Committee to consider the <br />advisability of drafting-such an ordinance. <br /> <br /> A request of the Civic League to have parked the unpaved ~ortion of_roadway of EffinEham <br />street~ between Glasgow and H.igh, and for an appropriation of ¥10.00 or $S0.00 for trees and <br />shrubs to plant in same, was referred to Finance and Street Committees. <br /> <br /> On suggestion of the Chair, a motion was made and adopted, to refer to Street Committee <br />the advisability of laying a granolithic pavement on the north side of High street, from Dinwid- <br />die to Court, and on the west side of Court street, from High to Queen; and to refer to Public <br />Property Committee the advisability of removing fence around the court house building. <br /> <br /> Also, on sugE~stion of the Chair, a motion was made and adopted, to refer to Public Proper- <br />ty Committee the advisability of remodeling the meat market and general cleaning of the vegetable <br />market. <br /> <br /> On motion of ~r.-Heynolds, the attention of the Street Committee was called to oondit£on <br />of iron grating at the-corner of Henry and ~irst s~reets; also to condition of drain pipe on <br />Fifth street, between Jefferson and Fayette. <br /> <br /> Mr. Hall moved to refer to Light Committee to consider the advisability of installing a <br />light in neighborhood of the boat house a~ Swimming. Point. The motion was adopted. <br /> <br /> Nr. Hawks moved to refer to the Stree~ Committee, the Seventh Ward Board and Finance Com- <br />mittee the advisability of impro~ng~the roadway of Chestnut street, from South to Lincoln. <br /> The motion ~as adopted. <br /> <br /> Mr. Tyler moved ~o refer to Street Committee the advisability of paving the roadway o£ Jef- <br />ferson street~ between Fourth and Sixth. The motion was adopted.. <br /> <br /> Mr. Heath moved to refer Zo Street Committee ~o provide a granolithic sidewalk on the south <br />side of Queen street, from Effingham to Chestnut. The motion was adopted. <br /> <br /> ~&r. Brineon offered his resignation as a member of the Common Council from the Fourth Ward, <br />and after several members had spoEen of his activity and usefulness to the body, on motion, the <br />resignation was accepted with much regret. <br /> <br /> Whereupon, Nr. Cross moved that the body go into an election to fill the vacancy. <br /> The motion was adopted. <br /> He then nominated ~. L.
