161. <br /> <br />F&bruary 11, 1913. <br /> <br />in concerning <br /> <br />the following matters referred to the Joint Police Committee January 16-21, 1915: <br /> <br /> Referred by ~wo branches January 16-21st. <br /> Advisability of creating the office of second Sergeant of Police. Progress as to same. <br /> R~ferred by Board of Aldermen January 21st. <br /> <br /> A request of the Police Justice for three record books for his office, at a cost of about <br /> $12.00 each. <br /> It is recommended that the request be gra~ted. <br /> <br /> A bill for $98.12, for a Remington ~typewriter in use at the Police Station; and a communi- <br />cation from L. Ci Smith & Bros. Typewriter Co. in which it is claimed that a typewriter had been <br />engaged for the Police Station from its Company, previous to the handling of a Remington Com- <br />pany's typewriter4 <br /> The Committee can not undertake to decide at this time to which of the Companys the <br />purchase of a typewriter was promised. Captain Only, now dead, claimed that he engaged to take <br />the Remington and not the L. C. Smith typewrit~r,~Shud as~said~Remi~gton t~pew~ite~ is <br />~he ~Oliee Btation, ~s been there for some time in use, and ~he L. C. Smith typewriter is net <br />there, it is recommended that said bill for $9~.12 be allowed. <br /> <br /> The Committee further recommends an appropriation of $1Z6.00 for lights for the Po- <br />lice Station, which appropriation was left out of the ~udget" for 1913. <br /> <br /> Further an appropriation of $144.00 for Dhone service for this year, or an approori- <br />ation to cover cost of such phone until the new police telephone service shall be establisRed. <br /> <br /> Further that the Council approve of action of the Committee in insuring the police <br />patrol wagon, at $40.00. <br /> <br /> Further that the Committee be authorized to discharge the horse patrol wagon now in <br />use as soon as patrolmen for the auto-patrol wagon shall have been selected. <br /> <br /> Further asks that ~the Committee be authorized to examine all unpaid Police bills due <br />before September 1, 1912, a~d to approve of such for paymen~ as~shall be f~nnd to be correct. <br /> <br />(Signed). O. <br /> <br />for an additional appropriation of $t50. <br /> <br /> In connection with the report, the Committee asked <br />to supply the auto-patrol wagon with an extra tire. <br /> Er. Tyler asked if the contract with the Company did not call for an extra tire. The Chair- <br />man replied that it did not call for one. <br /> ~r. Tyler then moved that the matter of an extra tire be taken up with A. Wrenn & Sons Inc. <br /> The motion was adopted. ~ <br /> Then the report of the Committee was adopted, the several recommended appropriations <br />being referred to Finance Committee. <br /> <br />cil <br /> <br /> UNFINISHED BUSINESS. <br /> <br /> First. Natters adopted by the Joint Session January ISth and referred to the <br />for oonourre~oe. <br /> <br />Common Coun- <br /> <br />The "budget" of Anticipated Receipts and Expenditures of City funds for the year 1915. <br /> <br /> To refer ~to Committee on Rules a recommendation of the Finance Committee concerning the <br />handling of City bills, and ~o the Ordinance Committee, for an ordinance to increase the autho- <br />rity of the Auditing Committe~ with regard to such bills. <br /> <br /> To refer to Finance Committee fo~ an appropriation of $100.00 to build a feed room for the <br />Union Fire Company's house. <br /> <br /> To refer to Finance Committee the question of an increase of salary for the Commonwealth <br />Attorney. <br /> <br />To refer to Police Committee the advisability of creating a~ second Sergsanz of Police. <br /> <br /> To appoint a Committee of Five, with the Mayor, of which Committee the Presidents of the <br />two branches are to be members, to co-operate with other bodies in the effort to make this har- <br />bor the chief port of entry for customs. <br /> <br />All of the above were Concurred in. <br /> <br /> Second. Matters adopted by the Common Councii January iSth and referred to the Board of <br />Aldermen for concurrence. <br /> <br /> To adopt a resolution to make oertai~ corrections of coupons on Portsmouth Redemption Bond <br />No. ~6, dated July 2, 1888,. for $500.00. <br /> <br />Concurred in. <br /> <br /> Third. ~{atters adopZed by the Board of Aldermen January Bist and referred to the Common <br />Council for eonourrenc~. <br /> <br /> To appoint a Committee of Five-to confer with ~he Co~ncil of Norfolk, or a Committee of <br />same, in regard to the question of a join~ water supply. Not eoncuq~red in.~ <br />However~ in declining to concur with the Board of Aldermen in the appointment of this <br />Co~mittee, we deszre to say that after a reconsideration Of the matter, we believe tb~ ~nt~nt~r~, <br /> <br /> <br />
