Finance--
Hon. Common Council.

~ Gentlemen:-- Your Pinanoe Committee respectfully reports

herein concerning the foltowi~g matters referred to the Joint Finance Committee January 18-~1,

1913:

Referred by Common Council January 16th.

ReoommiSted. An appropriation of $5,000.00 to King's Daughters Hospital building.
This appropriation was referred back to the Committee to consider what rights the
City would have in said building, &c.~ In accordance therewith we have communicated with the
"Hospital Committee on Appropriation from the City" and have received in reply the following
from J. Davis Reed, its Chairman. (See communication attached~.
Therefore, it is recommended that said appropriation of $5,000.00 (the first instal-
ment of the $15,000.00 asked to be appropriated in three years) be made for the hospital, pro-
vi~ed the City can retain five (5) beds therein for its service. (See communication from J.
Davis Reed in regard to said recommendation).

Recommitted. An appropriation of $7,500.00 for Grimes Battery Gun Room.
This appropriation was~reo0mmitted to the Finance Committee for additional informa-
ti$~, We beg to say that we recomm~ended the appropriation because of a previous promise to do
soi~ the "budget" for 1915.
We report that we are informed by ~Captain Brinktey, of the Company, that an annual
sttm0f $~,500.00 to SA,000~00 is expended in this City by the Grimes Battery, which appears to
be~a~E00d investment~ that the extensive equipment of ~$1~0~GO0.OG plaoed h~re by the ~. S. Gov-
i~e~n~ will be removed, unless ~the. appropriation i~ m~d$~SO that the equi~ent can be used and
thei~bmpanydrilled; that if the equipment is r~emo~d the Company, having none, will be. forced
~to disband~ ~
The Finance Committee realizing these conditions and wishing to preserve the Battery,
~but recognzzing the condition of the finances and that the money for this expenditure will have
I ~Obe borrowed as a snaciat annronriation, submit the matter to your honorable-body for your ac-
