March 11, 1913. ~On motion, the report of the Committee was adopted, the several recommended ordinances, ac- cording to rule, being ordered to lie on the table until next regular meeting of body. Ferries-- Hon. Common Council. Gentlemen:-- Your Yerry Committee respectfully reports here- in concerning the following matters referred to the Joint Ferry Committee January 16-Bl, 1913, and December 10, 1912: Referred by two branches January l$-Elst. Authorized to negotiate With the owners of "N~wton's Wharf" relative to its purchase by Norfolk County and the City ~for. additional ferry facilities. We have been considering this pronosition with owners of the Newton Wharf propertz~: and a counter pronosition'with agents for owners of the Campbell Wharf pronerty (lying between the ferry property and Roanoke dock), but have not as yet reached a basis for a recommendation as to such ~ronerty. We hone to be able to report on the same at next regular meetings of Coun- cils. Referred by Common Council Decembe~ 10th. A request of The Ferries Company to be allowed to extend its ferry house on the Norfolk side from Water street to itc nresent location, at a cost of about $~0,000,00. We-have considered this matter with renreSentatives of The Ferries Company, have con- eluded that the pro~osition is not advisable, and, therefore, recommend, that the request be not granted. The report having been read, Mr. Hawks moved that the COmmittee reconsider the request o~f ~he Ferries Comnanv to be allowed to extend its ferry house on the Nor folk side from Water street to its present ~ocation, submi~tinga detail~lepo~$~ of same. The motion was adopted. Then the report, ae:~amended, was adopted. Police-- Common Council. Gentlemen:-- Tour Police Committee respectfully reports herein concerning the 1913: Referred by Common Council February llth. To take up with A. Wrenn & Sons the matter of an extra tire for Progress as to same. following matters referre~ to the Joint Police Committee February 11-1S, the auto-patrol wagon. Bills of Delby, Nottingham Co. to amoun~t of $~74~50, for hire of the police patrol wagon for May, .June, July, ~ugust, September, October, November, and December 191~, and January 19L3. We recommend that these bills be paid, when nroperly approved by the Police Committee. (With Finance Committee), Concerning conditions ~n which the appropriation of $~,300~00 for the auto-patrol wagon was allo~d. .- So far as we have been able to learn, there were no conditions connected with this appropriation, except what were included in the c~ntract with A. Wrenn & Sons, Inc., for same, and we so report. Bills of the Virginia Railway & Power Co. to amount of $9.$0, for lights furnished at the Police Station. We recommend that these bills be paid when p~operly approved by the Committee. Referred by Board of Aldermen February 18th. A reconsideration of matter of a no!ice telephone service. We have reconsidered this matter, and recommend that th~ Committee be authorized to advertise for bids to supply the City with a police telephone system~with, and also without, flash lights; and further recommend that the Central Phone station be abandoned when a general telephone system shall have been established. It is fUrther recommended that an appropriation of $150.00 be made to pay for running expenses of the a~to-oatro! wagon for the yea~ 1913. - (Signed). W..J. Cross, Chairm~n C, C.
