The purchase of a set of link rods about 400 feet long to clean <br />sewer pipes. <br /> It is recommended that 134 sections of link rods be purchased for the purpose, at a <br /> cost-not in excess of $100.00. - <br /> (Signed). C. <br /> <br /> On motion, the report of the Committee was adopted, the several recommended appropriations <br />being referred to the Finance Committee. <br /> <br />Schools~ <br /> <br />Hon. Common. Council, <br /> <br />Gentlemen:-- Your Committee <br /> <br />on Schools respectfully reports <br /> <br />herein concerning the following matters referred to the Joint Committee on ~chools January <br /> <br />1913: <br /> <br />Referred by Board of Aldermen Januax7 Ztst. <br /> <br /> A communication from ~he School Board,urging an appropriation of $40',000.00 for a school <br />building for colored children. <br /> In view of'the urgent need of increased school facilities for the colored school child- <br />ren, and in order to save the annual rental charges for additional school rooms, which rental is <br />approximately equal-to the interest on the amount asked for-- <br /> . We, your Committee on Schools, recommend that provision be made for the purchase of a <br />suitable.piece of land and erection thereon of a colored school building, at a cost not in ex- <br />cess of $40,000.00. <br /> (Signed). C. <br /> <br /> On m~tion, the report of the Committee was adopted, the recommended appropriation being re- <br />ferred to the Finance~Committee. <br /> <br />UNFINISHED BUSINESS. <br /> <br /> First. Matters adopted by the Common Council March llth and referred to. the Board of Al- <br />dermen for.comcurrence. <br /> <br /> To adopt a resolution of the Board of Water Commissioners in regard to a deed between the <br />City and the Ric.hmond~Cedar Works. <br /> <br /> To allow.the Park~View Sire-Company to hold a carnival on the "Phillips-Mahoney" lot for <br />one week between April i4th and May 5th, and to exempt said Company from payment of a license, <br />tax on same. <br /> <br /> To refer to Finance Committee a request of the Board of Water Commissioners for an addition- <br />al appropriation of $15,000.00, <br /> <br /> To authorize the Fire Committee to advertise for bids to supply material for new work on <br />fire-alarm telegraph system. <br /> <br />To authorize the Cemetery Committee to advertise for bide zo whitewash the cemetery walls. <br /> <br /> To adopt a r~solution in regard to appointing a Committee of Five to take such immediate <br />steps as may be necessary in an effort to secure the general office building of the Seaboard Air <br />Line:Bmilway for this'City. <br /> <br /> To request the~Mayor to instruct the City Attorney to enter a friendly suit-against the Vir- <br />ginia Railway & Power Company to recover Sixth Ward's proportion of cost for paving between the <br />street car tracks on County streets and to allow the Sixth Ward to employ counsel to assist the <br />City Attorney. - <br /> <br />To authorize the Fire Committee to advertise for bids for a flew Hose Dryer House. <br /> <br /> To refer to Auditing Committee matter of amending ordinance in regard to-auditing of bills <br />against the City. <br /> <br /> To assign to the Mayor the room in the "Municipal Building" originally provided for the <br />Commissioner of Revenue. <br /> <br /> To authorize the Public Property Committee to make such arrangements as in its discretion <br />may seemadvisable, for formal dedication of the "Municipal Building." <br /> <br /> · To authorize the Fire Committee to advertise for bids to supply the Annex Fare Company with <br />a bell. <br /> All of the above were concurred.in. <br /> <br /> The Board concurred also in all recommendations of Committees adopted by the Common <br />Council, except recommendation in regard to appropriatihg $5,000.00' for Emng s Daughters Hoepi- <br />tal~ which said recommendation was recommitt~d to the Finance Committee; and recommendation of <br />the Fire Committee to make awards for ~,000 feet of fire hose~ which ~said matter was recommitted. <br /> <br /> Second. Matters adopted by the Board of Aldermen.March 1Sth-and referred to the Common <br />Council for concurrence. <br /> <br /> To authorize the "Special Committee on Revision and Codification of City Ordinemces" to em- <br />ploy a competent attorney-at-law to assist said Committee ~in ~its work. <br /> <br /> <br />
