We report that we are getting ready to make such advertisement. Referred by Board of Aldermen March 18th. Recormmitted. To consider bids for supplying the Cit~ with 2,000 feet of fire ~ose. Gentlemen:-- Your Ordinance Committee respectfully re- ports herein concerning the following matters referred to the Joint Ordinance Committee March 11, 191S: Referred by Common Council ~rch llth. A request of the Portsmouth 'Humane Society to have amended ordinance regarding division of fines received for violation of humane laws. We ha~e looked into~this request, do not thiAk it Advisable to grant it at this time, and we so recommend. A request of the Board of Health for the ena6tment of an ordinance r~qu!ring "fly-proof and sanitary" privies. It is recommended that the following ordinance be adopted therefor: An Ordinance to Require Privies to be Screened and Fly-proof. A'communication from the Secretary of the fltate Board of Charities and Corrections in re- gard to passage of certain ~Ales for government of the Jail. Progress as to s~me. (Signed). 0. Common Council. Gentlemen:-- At meetings of the two branches_of City Coun- cil February 11-1~, 19!3, your Almshouse Committee was authorized to advertise for bids to paint th~ Almshouse buildings and an appropriation fo=~same was referred to the Finance Committee. At the March meetings of the Councils, said Committee reported, with recommendation that the Almshouse Committee ~rnish further information coneernimg said painting and also concern- ing the ~urchase of a wagon and harness for the Atmshouse~ previously asked for. As $300.00 had been allowed in the "budget" for painting and repairs to said buildings, the A~mshouse Committee thought that the best way of giving such information would be to advertise for bids to do the work. They have so advertised and have received the following bids therefor: he being otherwise saris- For Painting: G~o. A. B~inEl~y, $190.00 J. P. Hofler, S~6.00 L. P. Smith~ 197.75 Geo. A. Brinkley being the l~#est bidder for the work and factory to the Committee, it is recommended that the award.for same be made to him under a bond of $~0.00 for faithful performance of the work=:and that the City Attorney be instructed to draft a contract between said painter and the City. to cover same. It is ~r%ner recommended that the .said $~00. O0 ~llowed in the "budget" for painting and repairs be now made available to the Committee. With regard to the wagon and harness, which called for an appropriation not provided for in the "budget" but about which t~e Finance CommitteeWanted information also, we have received bids for the same, and such information will be turned over to the Finance Committee.
