Dewson, <br /> Eark Saunde~rs~ <br /> <br />The minutes of the regular meeting August 1Eth were read and were approved. <br /> <br />and <br /> <br />per; <br /> <br /> REPORTS OF COEEITTEES. <br /> Auditing-~ <br /> Reported having examined bills against the City for the month of August, 1913, <br /> <br />they recommended th~ payment of same to the following am~ants: $10,508.73 for the City Pro- <br /> <br /> $000.00 for the Sixth Ward; and $0,000.00 for the Seventh Ward. <br /> <br />On motion, the bills were allowed and by the following vote: <br /> Ayes--Corbitt, Hall, <br /> White, Hanv~y, Herbert, Baker, Johnson, Cross~ Tyler, Hutchins, Parker, <br /> Beisel, Cooke, 13. <br /> <br />Hon. C.ommon Council. <br /> Gentlemen:-- Your Finance Comm~ee respectfully reports <br /> <br /> "pla~ <br />We report that an appropriation for this purpose will be considered for the Budget of <br /> <br />19~4. <br /> <br />Reports of the Auditor, Treasurer, and Sixth and Seventh Ward Boards for 'Ju!v, 1913, <br /> Progress as to same. <br /> <br /> A request of the Board of Health for a special appropriation of $100.00 to cover expense <br />of general lot inspection now going on. <br /> It is recommended that a special appropriation to said amount be allo~ed for the pur- <br />pose named. <br /> <br /> i request of the School Board for the balance in the Budget <br />Schools. <br /> We report that this balance is already available. <br /> <br />for maintenance <br /> <br />of PubiLc <br /> <br /> A request of the Treasurer to borrow $~0,000.00 to meet current expenses for month of Sep- <br />tember, 1913. <br /> It is recommended that the request be granted, and that the following resolution be <br />adopted therefor: <br /> Resolved, That the Treasurer be, and he is hereby, authorized to make notes <br />in The Bank of Portsmouth, The Eerchants' & Farmers' Bank, the Bank of Tidewater, and TheFirst <br />National Bank of Portsmouth, to amount of Twenty Thousand Dollars ($~0,000.00), ~aid~amodnt '. <br />to be repaid from revenues of the City for the current year. <br /> <br />out <br /> <br />but <br /> <br /> To make available $60.00 allowed in the ~adget for "Hire of Horses," ~ud to allow $18.00, <br />of same, for horse collars. <br /> It is recommended that the $18.~0 be allowed from "Hire of Horses" for horse collars, <br />report that the balance of the $60.00 has already ~een expended on ~oproved Fire bills. <br /> <br /> To make available $~00.00 allowed in the Budget for "Hose Dryer House." It is recommended that said amount be made available_ <br /> <br />herein concerning the following matters referred to the Joint Finance Committe~ August i~-i9, <br /> <br />June'~10~ and March l~, 1913: <br /> Referred by Common ~ounoit August lEth. <br /> <br /> To make available to ~treet Oommittee the balance of Bond Issue to pave the following <br />itr~ets: Lincoln, from ~Ixth street to Seventh Wa~d line, $3,000°00; Glasgow, from Effingham <br />o ~atton, and from Godwzn to ScOtt Creek Bridge, $16,501.00; Washfhgton,. f=om North to South, <br />~$,000.00; Qu~en,.from Water to Crawford, and east side of Orawford, from ~ueen ~o High, S4 5~0. <br /> The uomm~ttee reports no action by it in this matter. ~ <br /> <br /> $i$.~0 to place awnings to windows of office of the Clerk of Court. <br /> It is recommended that a special appropriation to said amount be allowed for same. <br /> <br /> $~00.00 for preliminary work of segregating the white and colored races Of the City. It is recommended ~hat said amount be allowed from the Budget for 1913. <br /> <br /> Appropriations to place lights at the following corners; Southwest corner of Sixth ave- <br />nue and King street, out of Sixth Ward funds; corner of Chestnut and London streets; and corner <br />of Third and Nythe streets. <br /> It is recommended that an appropriation be allowed for the light a.t the corner of <br />Chestnut and London streets, out of appropriation to Lights, The other recommended lights will <br />be considered for the Budget of 1914. ~ <br /> <br /> $300.00 to be set~ a~de as an "emergency fund" for the Board of Police Commissioners. <br /> W~ ~epor~ that this appropriation will be considered for the Budget of 1914. <br /> <br /> To allow in the Budget for 1914 an appropriation to increase the Police force by two <br />clothes" men. <br /> <br /> <br />
