<br />port having been read, was referred to the Finance Committee.

<br /> A request was read from. the Treasurer to renew notes to amount of $i77,000.00 due in Decem-
<br />ber and 650,000.00 due Street Paving Bond Account.

<br />NEW BUSINESS.
<br />
<br /> A communication was received from the Chambers Fire Company returning thanks to She Council
<br />for permitting it ~o hold a carnival on the playground October S0-~8th, and said communication
<br />was ordered to file.
<br />
<br /> Mr. HAll offered the following resolution which was adopted:
<br /> "Resolved, That the present
<br />condition of the boats be referred to the Ferry Committee, and that th? Ferry Committe?, ~n con-
<br />nection with the City Attorney, look into the advisability of petitioning the next Legmslature
<br />to modify the law un~er which the Councils now act in the manner of leasing the ferries."

<br /> On motion of Mr. Johnson,~the matter of a special appropriation of $80.O0.for lights for
<br />the Fire Department Sot the balance of the yea~ was referred to the Finance Committee.
<br />
<br /> On motion of Mr. Oorbitt, the advisability of the City incorporating the Sixth and Seventh
<br />Nards under the. terms and conditions prescribed by law for~same was referred to Finance Committee.l
<br />
<br /> Nr. Hutchins statedthat~he wished some instructions in regard to fitting up the City base-
<br />ment rooms in the Court House for Oity offices.
<br />
<br /> . . Whereupon, on,orion of Mr. Hawks, the Oomm~ttee was authorized to,brain plans for
<br />fitting up samd offices or offices in the Armistead building for City offices;.and $1so to get
<br />the co-operation of Norfolk County in.taking down the fence and coping around the Court. House
<br />yard.

<br /> On motion 6f Nr. Hall, the Public Property Oommittee was instructed to obtain cost of im-
<br />provement ~o the vegetable market and putting the same in sanitary condition,-and to report o~
<br />the matter at next regular meetings of 0ounoite.
<br />
<br /> Mr. ~oh~son move~ that the ~emetery Department be allowed to draw $8.55 from its "Contingent"-
<br />fund and $15.00 from mts "Ice" fund to purchase harness for ~kid Department,
<br /> The matter was referred to the FinanGe Oomm~ittee.
<br />
<br /> Mr. Tyler moved to refar to Street Committee condition of the hedge at the cornex of Wythe
<br />and Fourth streets. The motion was adopted.
<br />
<br /> Mr. White spoke of the failure of parties to observe the ordinances about spitting and
<br />throwing banana peelings on the sidewalks and he moved that the NaTor be .requested to direct the
<br />Police Force to enforce more ~igidly the ordinance as to sa~e.
<br /> ~he motion was adopted.
