Aprml 15, 1914. "Sidewalk cnN. Side of Randolph." The motion was adopted. By the same, that the City Attorney be instructed to proceed without fur~ther delay in the suit against Va. Railway & Power~Co. for amounts due by it to the City for p~ving in and outside of tracks of said Company in the~ Sixth and Seventh Wards. The motion was adopted. Mr. Hall moved that the Chesapeake &'Potomac Telephone Company be reGueeted to issue in the next book by i~eeparate directories for Portsmouth and Norfolk. The motion was adopted. Mr. Hawks offered the following resolution, which was adopted: Resolved, That a ~ommittee of five, three from the Common Council and two from the §card of Aldermen, be appointed to re- port upon the advisability of adopting for the City of Portsmouth one of the forms of City Govern. ment recently provide~ for by the Legislature, and if such form be deemed advisal~le in the opin- ion of the Committee, the said committee is then authorized to prepare a detailed p~l~n~.Lof such government and report the same to a Joint meeting of the City Councils. And on motions the following other matters were referred to: Finance Committee-- Order of Court relieving estate of the late Jno. L. Watson from payment of $125.00 for City taxes for the year 1913. A request of the Police Justice that amount which was appropriated last yea~ for the pur- chase of a filing case for his office be re-appropriated. A bill of Frank Dunkum to amount of $159.35, for removal of dead horses. A petition of King's Daughters Hospital to have turned over to it the $5,000. appropriated to the institution for 1914. To make-available $45.00 allowed i.n Budge~ for "Bicycle" for Plumbing Inspector. To make available $700.0~ allowed mn Budget for "Sewering Hunter's and Eastwood's Lanes." Street Committee-- Petition of E. P. Lindsay for permission tO put an underground tank for gasoline on street hear curb at No. 518 Middle Se. A petition of Mrs. Jos. Barrett to have her husband Jos. E. Barrett put on the pay roll of t he City. To look into conditions of contract between the City and Va. Railway & Power Co. in regard to moving old stone from High street. To consider the advisability of opening Cooke street~ from Glasgow to High. Fire Commit tee-- A petition of J. G. Ga~ris to be paid $26. for time lost as fi~e~sR from February 6-~?th, on account of an injured foot. Repor~ of ~he Hook & Ladder Co. of paid men elected for said Company for the ensuing year. Petition of Fire Board for an appropriation of $190. to purchase an Hydraulic Hose Expand- er and test pump. Petition ef Fire Board to re-appropriate a sufficient sum to place a tower and bell on the Annex Engine House~ gongs in homes of foemen of companies and Assistant Chiefs, and emergency lights near the Annex and Union Fire C~mpanies' headquarters. Ordinance Committee-- A communication from Louis Mangialetto concerning the vending of edi- bles in the City during the spring and summer months. ~dvisability of an ordinance giving the Assistant to the City Clerk authority to act for him ~n all matters pertaining to hie office during his absence. Light Oommittee-- To investigate the condition of the "White Way." Water Committee-- ~ental for three months Bill of P. B. &~S. Water Company to amount of ending March Si~ 1914, with interest. SE, 518.6~, for hydrant ~ewerage Committee-~ A petition of R. L. Albert and sundry other Master Plumbers and Journey man Plumbers for the establishment of a Board of Examination for plumbers.
