<br /> this money; and also to--ask that h~ take steps to collect from Said Company the $400.
<br /> for guttering ~n High street in the Sixth ~ard, which amoun~ is properly

<br /> ~Mr.~ Hawks moved that the body go into an election to fill a vacancy on same from the Fifth
<br /> ~ard, czused by resignation of~ S;B. Hutchins therefrom. The motion was adopted.
<br /> He then nominated'Wm. D. Morgan to fill~he vacancy and there being no other nominations,
<br /> he was elected and by the following vote:

<br /> Mr. Hall said that he had observed sundry curb boxes above the sidewalk which were an ob-
<br /> Struction to pedestrians, an~ he moved that the m~tter be referred to the City Engineer for cor-
<br /> re6tion. The motion was adopted.

<br /> Mr. H~wks sald~he understood that in some parts of the City the Virginia Ry. & Power Co..
<br /> was~renewing its octagon shaped poles with round poles, or other poles not in accordance with
<br /> its contract, and moved that the City Engineer be instructed to see that such poles are not put
<br /> up by the Company. The motion wms adopted.

<br /> On motion of Er. Reynolds, an appropriation to improve the condition of the south side of
<br /> Wythe st=eot, between Third amd Fourth, w~s referred to Finance Committee.

<br /> The Chairman of the. Sewerage Committee-stated that there was material or junk at the Sewer
<br /> Power House of no use there., and hie Committee. would like to. have the privilege of disposing of
<br /> same, either by exchange or sale, and on me, ion, the privilege was granted, to the Committee,
<br /> with the understanding that the receipts for such material should be used~for sewermge purposes.

<br /> Mr. ~nite moved te refer~to Public P~operty~Committee the question of removing the fence
<br /> around the court house yard. The motion'Was adopted.

<br /> At this point,~the Chair suggested that the Public Property Committee t~J~e into considerm-
<br /> tion also the condition of gutters and roof of the court house~amd~ on motion,~.the suggestion
<br /> was adopted.

<br /> Mr. Reynolds moved to refer to Street Committee the removal of old stone on Second street,
<br />between Henry and P~ndolph. The motion was adopted.

<br /> On motion of Er. Houghton, the advisability of au ordinance to regulate street parades was
<br />referred to 0rdins~ce Committee.
<br />
<br /> Mr. Houghton moved to refer to Light Committee to look into the m~tter of. the Virginia P~.
<br />& Power Co. charging $5.00 for the installation of a meter. The motion was adopted.
<br />
<br /> By the same, that the Council allow the Sixth Ward to use the City street sweeper for three
<br />days. On motion, said matter was referred to the Street Committee.
<br />
<br /> By the same, to refer to the M~yor the m~tter of Sun¢~y trading at the corner of Sixth ave-
<br />nue amd Queen streets° to see that the law is complied with. The motion was adopted.
<br />
<br /> Mr.' Houghton stated also that he understood that the Sixth Ward was expected to do without
<br />for the present m~.speolal Sanitary Inspector.
<br /> He said that some kind of inspection would be necessary for the health and convenience
<br />of~the Ward and suggested an appropriation ~o continue said inspector.
<br /> On motion, the matter was referred to Finance Committee.
