<br /> "Some months ago I was instructed to bring condemnation proceedings to con-
<br />demn certain property at the south end of Dinwiddie street, owned by-Lizzie M. Townsend, Frede-
<br />rick Allen, and Morris Eatz.
<br /> "The commissioners appointed by the Court for the purpose of assessing the value and dam-
<br />ages for said land made their report on the Beth day of May, 1914, allowing Lizzie M. Townsend
<br />the sum of ~870; Frederick Allen the sum of $1~920; and Morris Eatz the sum of $1,850; with the
<br />privilege to each of said parties to move the buildings from their respective lands if they so
<br />desire.
<br /> "The said reports laid in the Clerk's office for thirty days as required by law~ and no
<br />exceptions having been filed to the same, have become final. .
<br /> "All that remains to be done now is to pay the money awarded by the commissioners which
<br />must be done within three months from the time the report was filed, which was May ES, 1914.
<br />The=~efore, I suggest that the money be made available at once, and owing to the fact that ~there
<br />are liens on some of the property it will be well to inst=uctathe auditor to have.the checks
<br />dragon as requested by the City ~ttorney.

<br />NEW BUSINESS.
<br />
<br /> The Sixth ~ard Board reported, in reply to a recommendation of the Street Committee, that
<br />it had decided not to make any further repairs to defective boardwalks but to have them taken
<br />up entirely.
<br />
<br /> The Board of Health notified Council that the three year period in the contract for removal
<br />of night soil from Sixth and Seventh Wards will expire August 31, 1914, and desired to know if
<br />it ie the pleasure of the body to advertise for bids for another contract or to continue the pre-
<br />sent contract for two additional years.
<br /> On motion, th~ rules were suspended to hear f~om the Sanitary Inspector in regard to
<br />same. The Sanitary Inspector explained the situation and, after some discussion,~Mr. White
<br />moved that the contract be continued for two years with the present contractor Mr. Dunkum, at
<br />the rate charged for the last three years. The motion was adopted an~ by the following vote:

<br /> A request was read from the Chief of t~e Fire Department to be allowed use of .the playground
<br />in ~yt~e street fo~ {he p~rpos? of holding a¢~rnival during the week of ADgust $4-SSth, for th~
<br />purpos~ o~ entertamning Vmrginma State Firemen~s Association on August Z6-S7-ZBth; and also to
<br />be exempt from payment of a license tax on same.
<br /> M~. Tyler moved that the permission be granted, provided the grounds are left in a
<br />cleanly condition, but that the license tax be not exempted.
<br /> At this point, the privilege of the floor was granted to the Chief of the Fire Depart-
<br />ment, who stetted that the ground~ would be cleaned when the carnival le~th~a~ that, if Council
<br />did not exempt the payment of a license tax, same would have to be pai~by ~he firemen.
<br />Then M~v. Hall moved ~o amend, that the nermis~ion be granted ~s requested, with the
<br />understanding that the grounds be leit in a cleanly oOnGition when the carni~a! leaves the City~
<br /> The amendment was adopted and by the following vote:

<br /> At this point, ~Lv. Morgan stated that he wished to bring up the matter of a Board of Exami,
<br />~ation for Plumbers which was reported back to the Common CoEnoil under head of "Unfinished Busi-

<br /> He desired the body to reconsider its action on June 9th and concur with the Board of Al-
<br />dermen in referring said matte= to the Sewerage Committee with Ordinance Committee.
<br /> On motion of Mr. Hall, the body reconsidered its action of June 9th and concurred with
<br />the Board of Aldermen in so referring said matter.
