C, P. <br />3047 <br /> <br />August 11, 1914. <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr. Hawks, the City E~O~eywas instructed to p~oceed as rapidly as practi- <br />cable with the suits against Virginia Ry. & Power Co. for the paving in the S~x~htNard, and <br />other work of the Traction Co. paid for by the City in paving cf upper High street and refer- <br />red to the City Attorney for collection. <br /> The 9hairman of the Street Committee remarked, that Joshua Denby, of the strset force, <br />had due h~m $1S. at the time of his death, and a warrant for that amount hah been so drawn by <br />the Auditor, but that in order for his heirs to receive the $1S. O0 it would ~e necessam~y to <br />add to the name of Joshua Denby on said warrant the words "or dowry," and he woul~ move that. <br />the Auditor be instructed to make such change in the warrant. <br /> The motion was adopted. <br /> Mr. 0coke stated that the City Attorney had repeatedly stated that, notwithstanding the <br />~ct of "Annexation." he believed that the members of Council frgm the Sixth:abd Seventh Wards <br />were ~ntitlsd to v~te on all questions arising before the Council and he moved that the ques- <br />tion be referred to the City Attorney for hi~ written opinion thereon. <br /> The motion was~a~opted. <br /> <br /> Mr. Johnson stated that money for installing bell at the Annex Engine House had been ap- <br />propriated and he would moved that award be made to L. J. Plur~nerLto build a belfry and install <br />the bell at said Engine House, for $2089.00. The motion was adopted. <br /> T~e President called attention to the fact that, as the Council had met probably for ~he <br /> last tmme and therefore, would not hear th~ minutes of this meeting read for approval, he would <br /> suggest that the President b~ authorized to sig~ same if they be found correct and, on motion~ <br /> said action was authorized. <br /> Mr. Tyler~ M~r. Hall, and Mr. Hawks expressed thei~ regre~ a~ havin~ to sever their connec- <br /> tion with the ~oUncil, expressed pleasL~ fj~e~ha~'~t~ke~J~t~=~eeedxngs, &o. <br /> <br />On mot ion, <br /> <br />adjourned. <br /> <br /> <br />
