Bills against the Virginia Ry. & 'Power Co. to amount of $4?3.09, for work done by F. J. McGuire at the~ intersection of Sixth avenue and Pearl & Armstrong .streets. Suit against the Virginia Ry. & Power Co. for amount due the City for paving in the Sixth and Seventh Wards. To collect from the Virginia Ry. & Power CO. $400. or more, 'for guttering on High street in the Sixth Ward. Give written opinion as to rights of S. -A. L. Ry. Co. at the southeast intersection of Water a~d County streets. Report to the Council the advisability of entering suit to recover She amount paid by the Cit~y in compromise suit to E. F. Barbour, in connection with work on First street. l~ublic Property Committee-- Advisability of removing the fence around the court-house yard. Ordinance Committee-- Advisability of an ordinance concerning the vendi~ng of edibles in the city during the spring and summer months. Light Co,mi ttee-- Advisability of a light at the co~ner of Dinwiddie and King streets. Water & Sewerage Committee-- To take up with the P. B. & S. Water Co. advisability of pur- chasing its water supply, or of acquiring some other source of supply. Mr. Morgan moved to refer to Street Committee the. advisability of extending Hatton street, from London to High. The motion was adopted. Mr. Morgan presented a petition of the Nest Park View Improvement League and the residents on West Leckie and adjoining streets, that the west end of Leckie street, Park View~ be opened, and same be connected by a bridge to the east end of Sales street, West Park View. On motion, the petition~'~as refez~ed to the Street Committee. On me, ion of Mr. Burgess, the following matters were referred to Finance Committee: : To mkke available the second half of the $500. allowed in the Budget for the "Orphan Asylum," and -~to make same payable to the Treasurer of said institution. Advisability of advertising the delinquent person.al tax at the same time that the delinquent real estate tax is advertised, ~he cost of said advertzsing to be paid by the delinquent. To submit a list of names, not less than six or more than ten, to the Judge of the Hustings Court, requesting that he select the appraisers from said list for the 19t4 assessment of real estate. Matter of curtal.ling notes now held against the City by the several banks. Matter of assessment of real estate and personal property, rate of levy, and license tax. Mr. Moore moved to refer to Finance Committee with Street Committee a bill of-F..J. McGuire against the City t.o amount of $~,848.~4, for work on upper High street The motzon was adop~ed.' ' ' On motion of Mr. Moore, the City Attorney was instructed to give His written opinion as.to whether or not the Sixth and Seventh Wards at the expiration of five years from the date of an- nexation to the City, have to pay their own fire, police, water and school expenses out of their own revenues. ~ Mr. Moore moved to refer to Rules Committee the advisability of substituting for~section SE of adopted ~ules the following: "A member of the Finance Committee may serve on Auditing & Claims, Rules, 0rdinanee, Ferries & Public Docks, and all special committees; but can not serve on Street, Public P~operty & Schools, Fire, Almshouse, Cemetery, Light, Wat.~r & Sewerage, and Police committees." The motion was adopted. On motion, the advisability of paving ~he~oadway~.0~q~ashington street and Hampton Place was referred to Street Committee. Mr..Herbert asked permission to dispose of three old horses in the Fire Department and to purchase a new horse, and the matter was referred to the Fire Committee. Mr. Herber~ moved that the Finance Committee make available the balance of $900.00 allowed .in the Budget for "Ho~ses." The motion was adopte~. On m~tion cf Mr. Laylor, the advisability of paving the sidewalk on the north side of Ran- dolph street, between Second and Third, was referred to the Street Committee. On motion of Mr. Burgess, the advisability of paving Craw~ord street was referred to the Street Committee. On motion of Mr. White, an appropriation of $15. for repair of a hose cart at the Sewer Power House was referred to Finance Committee. Mr. White moved to refer to Light Committee to investigate the lights of the White Way and ascertain if proper lighting is supplied. The motion was adopted. N~v. White moved to refer to Water & Sewerage Committee to consider the advisability of pur- chasing 800 feet of rubber hose for flushing purposes. The motion was adopted.
