May 7, 1914. <br /> <br />At a special meeting of the Board of Aldermen M~y 7th there were present: <br /> <br />Messrs--W. Jones Willimms~ President° S. T. Montague, Vice-President, W. E. Flournoy, M. B. La~ghorne, C. N. Markham,.~D. W. Ballentine~ <br /> E. L.~Ba~t~w,.L~.P~i~e~t,~0~'P.~:N~r~Y, Henry Pile, 10~ <br /> <br />The following directions for the special meeting were read: <br /> <br />Portsmouth, Va., Mmy 4, 1914. <br /> <br /> Mr. L. P. ~later, <br /> City Clerk, City. <br /> Dear Sir:-- <br /> You will please call a Joint Session of the two branches of City Council for <br />Thursday, May 7th, 8 o'clock P. M., to consider: <br /> First. A report of the Council Committee on S. A. L. R~ilway Offices, &c. <br /> Second. A bid to be presented by the Public Property Committee for alteration and repairs <br />to the Seaboard Market. <br /> Immedimtely following the Joint Session, the Board of Aldermen will meet in special see- <br />s~on to consider such m~tters as m~y have been adopted in such Joint Session. <br /> <br />Jno. Howard Hall, <br /> Vice-Prest. C. <br /> <br />Very truly, <br /> <br />W. Jones ~illiams, <br /> <br />Prest. B. of A. <br /> <br /> The "call" having been read, on motion, the following m~tters adopted in Joint Session of <br />this d~te were concurred in: <br /> <br />p~ny <br /> <br />To adopt a report of the Committee on Removal of S. A. L. Ry. Offices. <br /> <br />To refer ~o Ordinance Committee a request of the President of $. A. L. Ry~ <br />be stlowed to operate more ca~s on Crawford street. <br /> <br />To make award to Lorenzo Cart to repair the Market House for <br /> <br />that s~id Com- <br /> <br /> To instruct the City Engineer to supervise the work of laying the concrete floor in the <br />Seaboard Market. <br /> <br /> To refer to Public Property Committee, with power to act, a request of ~he L~dies Librmry <br />Aeso~matmon to be allowed to uss the offices formerly occupied by'Judge Crocker ~nd the building <br />attached thereto by a platform, for a public free library. <br /> <br />And by the following vote: <br /> Ayes--Williams, <br /> Barlow, Ballentine, Privett, Nai~kham, <br /> <br />Montague, Flo~trnoy, <br /> Pile, 10. <br /> <br />La, ho rne, <br /> <br />On motion, adjourned. <br /> <br /> <br />
