<br /> There was some discussion over the qUestio? as to whether the members of the Board from
<br />the Sixth and Seventh Wards should both serve for the long term or short term, or one of them
<br />for the long and the other for the short tsrm; but finally, it was determined to have one from
<br />said Wards to serve for the long term and the other for the short term, subject to correction
<br />of such terms in accordance with opinion of the City Attorney thereon.
<br /> The~refore, the two Aldermen from these Wards drew for the long and the short term~ with
<br />result as shown above.

<br /> The first matter taken up was the filling of the vacancy on the School Board from Fifth
<br />Ward.
<br /> Mr. W. R. M~Gehee was nominated for the Position, and there being no other nominations
<br />he was elected and by the following vote:

<br /> Mr. Markham then moved that a Oommittee of Five, three from the Common Council and two
<br />from the Board of Aldermen, to be known as the "Committee on Rules," be appointed to formulate
<br />and recommend rules for the government of the two branches of Council and, after some discussion
<br />of the motion, it was adopted.
<br />
<br /> . Further, the Pre~dants of the two branches were authorized to si gnpay rolls, approve
<br />bills and requisitions, and exercise generally such functions as are exercised by 0ha~r~n~e~T~m~OOm-
<br />mittees, until such Chairmen shall have been regularly appointedq
<br />
<br /> The two preceding motions were also recommended to the Council for adoption in separate
<br />sessions.
