On motion of Mr. Cart, the Btreet Committee and th~ City Engineer were instructed to re- <br />ques~ the.HArbbr. Oom~ission to establish the lines for Gander Creek, the engineer to use any <br />old curb stone on'hand which may be Decessary for such work. <br /> <br /> On motion of N~. Cart, the attentioA of the Street Comittee was called to waste paper <br />and ~ther material at the corner of Wythe and First streets, which is a nuisance and dangerous. <br /> <br /> N~. Cart moved that the City buy one-half dozen "olean-out, boxes to be placed in the <br />sewer lines at the curb leading to the Municipal Building the first time the sewer has to be <br />cleaned out. The motion was adopted. <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr. Browne, th~ question of street oar service for West Park View was refer- <br />red to Street Committee. <br /> <br /> I~r. Cart moved to refer to Finance Committee an appropriation of $175.00 fbr re-arrangement <br />of the Fire Alarm System. The motion was adopted. <br /> <br /> By the same, that the City Collector be instructed to collect rents from occupants of pro- <br />petty lately acquired by the City for the opening of Dinwiddie street from the time the City <br />paid for said property, the rent to be not less than ten dollars each. <br /> The motion wms adopted. <br /> <br /> On motion of N~. Browne, the advisability of ~ ordinance to regulate traffic of automo- <br />biles at street corners when street cars are passing, was referred~to Ordinance Committee. <br /> <br /> On motion of M~. Cart, the Stree~ Committee and City Engineer ware instructed to obtain <br />plans and advertise for bids for a culvert at the foot of Dinwiddie street where Gander Creek <br />passes through it. <br /> <br /> Mr. Langhorne 'moved to refer to a special committee of five the matter of gas rates, qual- <br />ity and all other conditions of gas furnished by any gas company to the citizens of Portsmouth <br />and all or any matters relating to the rights and privileges o~ gas companies doing business in <br />the City of Portsmouth. The motion was adopted. <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr. Lan g~orne~the Almshouse Committee was a~horized to advertise for bids to <br />supply rations for the Aims~ouse and medicines for the poor of the City for the year i~iB. <br /> <br /> On motion of N~. Markham, the Public Property & Schools Committee was instructed to look <br />into the advisability of taking down the fence~a~oun~the Oourt house yard and making general <br />improvements to the grounds. <br /> <br />On motion, adjourned. <br /> <br /> <br />
