P. i2f A~ril 20, 1915. nance Committee respectfully re;gemmends disposal of sundry City accounts as follows: General Account: That the Auditor be instructed to credit the Treasurer with in the People's Bank and $.43 in the Dime Savings Bank, total, Portsmouth Cemetery Funds: That the Auditor be instructsd to credit the Treasurer with $2~.74 in the People's Bank. : Old Sinking Fund: That the Auditor be instructed to credit the Treasurer with in the People's Bank and $~;69 in Dime Savings Bank, making a total of $2,898.94; and that the balance of $1~560.69 be transferred to the General Account and the acco~n~ closed. !:Fifth Ward Account: That the Auditor be instructed to credit the Treasurer With $9.09 in the People's Bank a~d the account closed. Paving & St. Improvement Account: That $168.78 balance in this fund be transferred to General Account and this account closed. Paving & Grading Account: That the Auditor be instructed to credit the Treasurer with $$,0A8.54 in the People's Bank and .~.49 in the Dime Savings Bank, making a total of $~,055.03; and that the balance of $1,~3.3A be transferred to General Account and the account closed. Gentlemen:-- Your Street Committee re- spectfully reports her~mn concerning the following matters.referred to the Joint Street Commit- tee March 9-16 and February 9, 1915: Referred bY Common council March 9th. A petition of the Va. Ry. & Power Co._ for permission to install two poles on Caroline st~e~' as per blueprin~ attached. :~ It~ia recommended that the petition be granted, under the usual conditions. Condition. of South street, between Pine and Pearl. We report that the City Engineer has made temporary improvements to as soon as the weather is more favorable, will continue the work there. said location and To consider the importance of paving Washington street. We report that it is very desirable to pave Washington street but as the funds for it are lacking, we see no chance of doing the work at the p~esent time. Recommitted. for further co~ideratiou. Condition of Third street, between Fayette and Li~- COI~. We repor~ that the City Engineer has been instructed to remedy the conditions on this Referred by Board of Aldermen March ~6th. A~tention called to condition of the lo~ formerly occupied by "Clover's Stables.. We report that the condition of this lot is being remedied. A petition of the Portsmouth Mac~ine Works for permission to install and operate a sidewalk gasoline tank and pum~ to garage now in course of erection at the northeast cor~er of Middle and Columbia streets. It is recommended that the petition be granted, under conditions heretofore imposed for such work, haply, that the work be done under the supervision of the City Engineer and Chief of the Fir~Department and to their approval. A communication from the General Counsel of the Seaboard Air Line Railway Co. in regard to a request from the Ceuncit that said Company allow the City to cross its property between High and King streets, so as to open~earl street continuously. We report that, since the Seaboard Air Line Railway Co. have refused to grant the request cf Council, we do not see that anything more can be done in the matter at the present time. Referred by Common Council February.gth. To investigate and report to whom the cost of improving Pearl street should be charged. Progress as to same. (~ith Claims Committee and~Oity Attorney) A communication from the City Attorney in regard to a claim of B. J. Farmer for $3,000. damages to his property on Pearl street. We have discussed this matter with the City Attorney and desire to look into same fur- ther.
