Common Council--Board of Aldermen. <br /> Gentlemen:~ At a meeting of your Joint <br />Ferry Committee held Thursday, August §th, together with the Joint Ferry Committee of Norfolk <br />C,unty, to consider the matter referred to it April 20th relative to acquiring additional pro- <br />perty for ferry purposes in the City of Norfolk, recommends that the City of Portsmouth and <br />Norfolk County acquire the property known as "Newton's Wharf, on the east side of the present <br />docks in Norfolk, as follows: <br /> Beginning at a point of present ferry property, thence running <br />east o~ the Port H~r~en line lES feet, more or less, thence north 2§0 feet, more or less. thence ~ <br />west 140 feet on Nivison St., and thence south ~50 feet, more or less, to ~he point of b~ginning, i <br /> And that an offer be made for said proptrty of One HuncLred and Two Thousand Five Hun~ <br />dred and Twenty, five Dollars ($102, B~.00), and mn the event of.purchase the City to pay one- <br />half of purchase price and the County one-half. <br /> <br /> (Signed) Grover O. ~ight, Chairman. <br /> (Signed) M.B. Sullivan <br />to install ~n front of his store No. $02-0~ Middle street a gasoline curb pump and well. <br /> On motion of Mr. Pile, the petition of W. S. Parker was referred to the Seventh Ward <br />Board, but the petition of D. Sullivan was concurred in. <br /> <br /> To appropriate a sum not to exceed $228.00 for the employment of a policeman to ~eguiate <br />traffic on the streets. <br /> There was oonsiders~ble discussion over this recommended appropriation. Mr. Barlow <br />moved that the appropriation be referrsd~ to Finance Committee. <br /> Mr. Ms~rkham moved to amen% that the item be passed by. The amendment was lost. <br /> Then the motion by Mr. Sallow was adopted. <br /> <br /> N~X~. the matters referred for concurrence were concurred in, as amended, <br />the following vote: <br /> Ayes--Davis, Markham, ~angho=ne, Barl~w, Cart, Wilson, Browne, <br /> Pile, <br /> <br />and by <br /> <br />Third.
