Sullivan to install in front of his store No. <br />Niddl~ street a gasoline curb-~ump and w~ll.. <br /> It is recommended that the petmtions be granted for gasoline pumps only, the pumps <br />to be inetalled under the supervision of the City Enginee~ and Chief of the Fire Department. <br /> <br /> To. obtain estimates <br /> We report that <br />street. <br /> <br />Referred by Oommon Council Ju~ly 13th. <br /> <br />of cost of repairing .Glasgow streW, t, SiXth Ward. <br />the City Engineer estmmates that it will cost $t,0Z5.00 to repair said <br /> <br />Referred by Common Council May llth. <br /> <br /> Question of working jail priseners on the streets and to report on same with cost to the <br />City. <br /> We have looked into this matter with some attention, and i~ i~ recommended that jail <br />prisoners be worked on the streets of this City and that the Ordinance committee be inst~acted <br />to bring in an ordinance covering the same. <br /> In connection with the matter, we submit the following information from another Vir- <br />ginia City where jail prisoners were worked: <br /> "The City onl~ feeds the pri~onerO confined in the <br />City Jail two meals each day; to those who worked on the streets an additional meal was fur- <br />nished at a cost of la~ cents each', then they'were furnished over-ails which probably brought <br />the expense, average, about 17 cents per day. In addition t.o this, they employed two .Chain-Gang <br />'Guards at a salary of ~BO. per month. Moore, Vice-Chairman. <br /> <br /> Preceding action on the report, the Chairman of the Committee stated that in committee <br />meeting Mr. Morgan, one of the members of the committee fr~m the Common Council, opposed the <br />recommendation to work jail prisoners on the streets and voted against same. <br /> Mr. Wilson then moved to adopt the report, except as to recommendation to work Jail pris- <br />oners on the streets. No second. <br /> Next, Mr. Cart moved to amend, to adopt the report e~cept as to recommendation to allow <br />Fort Nelson Chap., D. A.
