E. Thomas in regard to encroachment by the City and <br />Norfolk County upon Mr. Thomas' property adjoining on the east the Pear~'street Berkley FerrL <br />and said communication was referred to the Ferry & Public Docks Committee w. th the City Attor- <br />ney. <br /> <br /> Mr. Markhsm offered the following resolution, which was adopted: <br /> "~NER~AS, it not unfre- <br />quently happens that at, meetings of She one or the other brahch of the Coun.il there is lack <br />of a sufficient number of members for the transaction of important business, such as the mak- <br />ing of notes, the renewal of notes, &c,, <br /> "RESOLI~D, by the Board of Aldermen, the Common Council concurring, that i~ be suggested <br />to members of the two branches that when they find they can not at~end the meetzngs of their <br />respective bodies with a reasonable degree of regularity, they reszgn therefrom, in order to <br />have their places filled by Other members who ea~ ~o attendl <br /> "RESOL%~D FURTHER, That the Clerk be instructed to send a copy of this resolution to each <br />member~of the City Council." <br /> <br /> Mr. Pile raised the question as to whether the Sanitary Inspector should receive fees as <br />inspector of milk in addition to his salary as Sanitary Inspector. <br /> On motion~ the matter was referred to the Ordinance Committee for consideration. <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr. Langhorne, <br />to the Finance Committee. <br /> <br />the advisability of having the <br /> <br />City books audited was referred <br /> <br /> On motion, the following =esoiution by Mr. Markham was adopted: <br /> "WHEREAS~ Section 10t4c <br />of the Code provides that whenever by the last United States Census, or other enumeration made <br />by authority of law it shall appear that the population in any ward exceeds that~ of any Other <br />ward by as much as three thousand (Z, O00) inhabitants, it shall be the duty of the City ~oun- <br />oil to redistrict the city into wards, so that no one ward shall exceed any other ward-by more <br />than three thousand (~,000) inhabitants; <br /> WHEREAS, section lOl~b provides that the City Council shall prescribe by ordinance the <br />numbe~ of members of each branch of the Council and re-apportion the representation ~as~far as <br />practicable; <br /> "~HEREAS, it was shown by the last United States Census that several of the city wards <br />have three thousand ($,000) more inhabitants than other wards, <br /> "NOW, THEREFORE. BE IT RESOLVED, by the Board of Aldermen~ the Common Counci~ncurrinz <br />that a speeia& committee of five (B) members of the'Council be appointed, two on the oarto*~ <br />the Board ox Aldermen and thre~ on the part of the Common Council, who shall wmthmn ~mnety <br />(~0) days from the adoption of this resolution, recommend to the Council such changes in the <br />boundaries of the wards, the representation therefrom, and the names or. numbers of the wards, <br />as they~may deem expedient." ....... <br /> <br /> Mr. Ca~r moved to refer t?
