Bar!ow, Vice-0hairman. <br /> The report having been read, Mr. Houghton.desired to know why the appropriation of $~Z.50 <br />to finish work on Grimes Battery Gun Room was allowed in with the general appropriation of $~,000. <br />to enlarge, &c., .said Gun Room. . <br /> The Chairman of the Committee explained that ~s $1,800. was the original amount asked for <br />to enlarge the Battery, his Committee thought the baAance of $~00. would cover the SZB.§0 for <br />repairs. <br /> _Then the report of the Committee was adopted, as presented, and by the following vote: <br /> <br /> Ayee--$$~i~t, Herbert, Burgess, HanM~y, Mogre (Joe. Common Council--Board of Aldermen. <br /> Gentlemen:-- Tour Street Committee re- <br /> <br />spectfully reports herein concerning the following matters referred to the Joint Street Commit- <br />tee July 1~-~1 and April 15, l~lB: <br /> <br />Referred by Common Oouncil July 13th. <br /> <br /> For work to be done under direction of the Street Committee on County street, <br />$1,000. having been allowed for said work out cf Sixth Ward Bond Account. <br /> Progress as to same. <br /> <br />Sixth Ward; <br /> <br /> To ascertain if the cost of teams for use of the Cemeteries can not be obtained for the same <br />price as on the streets. <br /> We report that we are trying to arrange for teams for use of the Cemeteries for the <br />same price as on the streets. <br /> <br />To take up the matter of opening ~he drains in the rear of 0. L. Williams' stables. <br /> We report that this matter has been attended to. <br /> <br /> A petition of the Chesapeake & Potomac Telephone Co. to be allowed to do work shown on at- <br />tached copy of d~awing, so as to remedy present bad plant conditions and to keep plant out of <br />the way of electxic light wires. <br /> It is recommended that the request be granted, under the usual conditions. <br /> <br /> Advisability of paving the south side of Ann street, between Armstrong and Owens. <br /> We report that it is very necessary to have this street paved and ask for an appropri- <br />ation of $1~0. to do the work. <br /> <br /> Advisability of paving the north side of Randolph street, between Second and Third. <br /> It is recommended that this street be filled and pipe line ~e extended in the <br />at a cost of $100.00, preparatory to paving it. <br /> <br />same <br /> <br /> Attention called to drainage at the corner of Fourth and Nythe streets and to condition of <br />asphalt pavement there. Progress. <br /> <br /> (~ith ~ater & Sewerage_Committee) Condition of gutters on Fourth street, between Fayette <br />and Jefferson, caused by stagnant water. Progress. <br /> <br /> To obtain ~stimates of cost of repairing GlaSgow street, ~ixth V~.rd. <br /> We report that we have referred this matter to the 0ity Engmneer to obtain estimate <br />of cost of repairing this street. <br /> <br />Referred by Board of Aldermen July Zl.st. <br /> <br /> To consider requiring all property owners taking up bricks from the sidewalks temporarily, <br />to replace them in the same manner as is done by the City, the replacing to be done under the <br />supervision of the City Engineer. <br /> We report Progress on this matter, but request that the offerer of the motion for <br />this work appear b~fore the Street Committee at its next meeting to explain in detail what is <br />required. <br /> <br /> To consider the advisability of providing the Street Inspector with an office. <br /> It is recommended that the Street Inspector be given desk room in the office cf the <br />City Collector and that he shall hold office hours there from i1 a.m. to 1E noon daily. <br /> <br /> Advisability of paving oneblock on Lincoln street, between Sixth and Seventh, and the <br />c~mseway between Wythe and Clifford. Progress. <br /> <br /> Advisability cf using ashes on lot adjoini~g/the Incinerator to fill in land between the <br />baseball park and adjoining property. <br /> we report, that this matter has been attended:to. <br /> <br /> <br />
