<br /> Reoommitted. An appropriation of $750~ for preliminary work on paving (with instructions
<br />to bring in some definite plan for drainage at corner of High ~3~d Washington streets, inClud-
<br />ing the size of pipe, he.ght of pipe mbove high water ma~k, &c.).
<br /> We report that we have gone over ca~eefully with the City Engineer the question of
<br />drainage and piping at the corner of Washington and High streets and the outflow of sadd dr~in-
<br />mge, believe that the ma=me= for doing the work is satisfactory, s~ud= therefore, repeat our
<br />former reoommendmtion that $750. be appropriated to meet this m~tter and for severs~! other
<br />small items connected with preliminary street work.

<br /> A petition of the Sixth Ward Boa~d for an appropriation of $1,050. to buy three lots to
<br />open up London street through to Ninth avenue.
<br /> It is recommended that au approprimtion, of $?00. be allowed for purchase of two lots
<br />to open up said street,, out of Sixth I~a~d funds, the Chairman having stated that his Board~
<br />after subsequent investigation, had oonclucled that two of the lots named would be sufficient
<br />for the purpose.

<br /> A petition of the Sixth Wa~d Board for mu aooropriation of $100, to O. L. Williams for
<br />~orf~_~-Fifth avenue, the contract having been a~ded him for $11~.00, when the figures should
<br />have been $21~.00.
<br /> We repor~ ~hat we have looked into this matter amd recommend.that the petition be
<br />not granted.

<br /> The Council m~y recall that, in accordance with a contract m~de with
<br />Railway & Power Co., ~d~,ted July 24, 1913, to dou=ble track upper Hi~ s~treet, the .
<br />w~s allowed a period o. five years from the d~t~ of the franchise in which to st=a=
<br />track smd place a double track at the junction of Effingham mud High streets, mhd
<br />exto. iration of t~n years it was to reconstruct the tracks, &c.
<br /> But, in a later conference of the C~mmittee with the Officials of the said Com-
<br /> paay concerning their trao~s on upper High street, the~ have agreed to double t.~o~ High street,
<br /> betwee~ 0coke and Pearl (where there is now a single track), and to place a crossing where _
<br /> Hatton street, if extended westward, would meet High stree%,~ a~d i~ accords~uce with plans sub
<br /> mitred for same.
<br /> Therefore, it is recommended that the Company be permitted to do this work.
<br /> We report further that Joseph Barrett, ~ fa&thful street ha~d fo= mauy yeaaes p~st,
<br /> is completely disabled from work, being ~r~lyzed and bed-ridden, a~ud. the Committee recomm~mds
<br /> that he be allowed hglf of his dmily p~y ~s street h~nd for the reminder of the short time he
<br /> will probably live.
