April li~ 1~16. conc~rnzng the following matters referred to the Joint Fire Committee respectful? reports herein ~ ' Committee March 15-2~124th, 1916: Referred by. Common Council Ma~ch A bill of J. Crawford Miller & Oeo to amount of $550.00, for two horses sold the Fire De- partment, one for the Hook & Ladder Co. and the other for the Independent Company. It is recommended that this bill be paid aud t?~t money for same be made available out of appropriation for "Horses" in the Budget. Advisability of redistricting the present Fire District. Progress as to same. A petition of the Madison Fire Co. in the Fourth Ward asking approval of its organization and that a suitable fire fighting apparatus be placed in said Ward. It is recommended that the organization of said Company he recognized and that the location of the Company be on the lot owned by the City on Lincoln street near the corner of Third. Referred by Board of Aldermen March 2~th. Advisability of a fire plug at the corner of North street ~nd Tenth avenue. It is recommended that the fire plug be so placed, the cost of same to come out of Sixth Ward ~unas. Referred by Board of Aldermen March 21st._ Reoommitted. Purchase of a Tripple Combination Pumping Engine -Chemical Engine~-~nd Hose ~otor Oar; and 2500 feet of fire hose. The Majority of the Committee make the same reoommendationas to the engine and fire ho~e as previously made, namely: that the Tripple Combinmtion Pumping Engine~-ghemic~!E~gine~ Hose Motor Ca~ be purchased from the American LaFrauoe Fi~e Engine Co. for $9,000.00 (~00 gals.);=and that the fire hose be purchased from the Fabric Fzre Hose Co. "let.- I recommend t5e purchase of a gasoline Tripple Combination PumplngEnglne of ?50 g~!lons. An engine~of this capacity is am large as the requirementsof the city will need for years to come, and 50 gallons mo~e than that recommended by the National Boa~d of Fire Under- w~iters,from whose report we are recOmmending additional fire apparatus, and cheaper by $500. or more than that recommended by the'majority report. '"~md.- After thorough Investigation I am convinced that the LaFrance and Seagra~eEngine Co~s. Combination Pumpi~ Engines are both Standard, and that-neither are worth a premium over the other. Consequently, all things being equal~the award should be made to the lowest bidder~ and_~ recommend that a Seag~ave Tripple Com~ination Pumpin~ Engine of YS0 gallons Be purchased at $~250.00 (Eight Thousand Two Hundred aha Fifty Dollars). "3rd.- In regards to the purchase of rubber hose, after investigating th~m matter I am convinced that the best rubber hose should'be purchased for Eighty Cents (805) p~ foot. I find ~h~t we h~ve in service now some Bay State "D.J." Brand hose purchaseddztVing Chief Nut- den's term of office, some~six or more years ago~a~ gO cents or 85 cents per foot, and believ- ing this to be far superior for cum purpgse t"han.t~e hose reogmmended in the m~Jo~ity .report, I furthe~ recommend that twenty-five huno~rsd feet (2,500 feet) of "B~ S~a~e, D.J." 5ese be purchased from the Boston Woven Hose and Rubber Co. ~t Eighty Cents (MOS) Per foot. The Majority and Minority Reports having been read,Mr. Morgan moved to adopt the m~jority recommendations concerning fire apparatus and hose. Mr. Moore (Joe. $.) moved to adopt the minority.report. Then the m~tter of engine and hose were discussed by Messrs. Herbert, Moore (Joe. S.), Wright (Earl H.), Reynolds, and H~nvey. Finally, Mr. Hanvey moved to refer the matter of hose back to the ~ommittee. The motion was adopted. ~hen a motion was made to adopt the majority repor~ so far as concerned the engine, and same was adopted by the following vote: Ayes--Burgess, Co~bitt, Herbert, C~in, Hanvey, ~ Leavitt, ~lemming, No~tague, ~e~nolds, w~ig~t (Earl H.), Morgan, 1i. N=ye-Branch, V~hite, Moore (~os. S.), Hutchins,- ~. The other recommendations of ~he Committee were adopted, the recommended appropriations being referred to the Finance Committee.
