May 9, 1~16. Mr. Herbert csilied attention to a. horse formerly used by the Hook & Ladder Fire Company, which is now too old to work; and he w~shed instructions as to wh~t to do with him. On motion, the Fire Committee was instructed to turn the horse over to the Humane Society, or to someone else who would ca~e for him. and not work him. The question of purchase of a new cemetery was taken up, when Mr. Montague moved that the body concur with the Boa~d of Aldermen in purchase of the Maynard track. Mr. Morga~ moved tO amend, that the Maynard site and all other sites offered for cem- etery purposes be sent to the Cemetery Committee to obtain the best terms for which same can be purchased. The motion was adopted. Mr. Wright (Ea~i H.) moved that this body concur in action of the Board of Aldermen April 18th in purchase of the Alexander property for extension of Hatton street, from .London to High, for $20~000.00, under conditions as ~roposedby Mr. Alexander. Mr. White moved to amend, 4o give $1~,000. for the property. The motion was lost. Then the motion by Er. Wright was adopted and by the fcllowing vote: Ayes-~Branch, Burgess, L~avitt, Flemmln$, Laylor, Nontague, Reynolds, Wright (Earl H.) Morgam, Wright (Grover C,), i0. ' Nays-White, Corbitt, Cain~ Hanvey, Moore (Jos. S.), Hutchins, 6. (Mr. Herbert being excused from voting). Next, ~Lr. MQore (Jos. S) moved that the matter ~f payment for smid property be referred to ~he Finance Committee. The motion was s~lopted. Mr~ Herbert remarked that, owing to the la, ge increase of membership of the several fire companies of late, he believed that one band of music would not be sufficient for the firemen's parade in May, ~nd ha..mo~d~ that mn additiona~ appropriation of $~5- be allowed for another band, Themotion was ~iopted. (Mr. Reynolds excused from further attendance). Er. Wright (Grover'C.) moved to refer to Public Property & Schools Committee to the s~ivisabtlity of removing the fence s~vound the Cou~t House Yard. The motion was adopted. consider By the same, to refer to Cemetery Committee the advisability of removing the horse stables contiguous to Oak Grove Cemetery wall. The motion w~s ~dopted. By the same, to call to the attention of the Chief of Police the matter of jitney buses racing on Hatton street. The motion was adopted. On motion of Er. Wright (Grover C.), tn~ Street Committee was instructed to put in low places in Oak Grove Cemetery dirt to be taken fr~m Cooke street, when pa~ed. N~. Leavitt moved to refer to Police Committee, with power to act, to provide a stamd a~d awning for protection of the traffic officer at the corner of Court and High streets. The motion was adopted~ The Chairman of the Fire Committee react m communication from the Hook & Ladder Fire Com- pany, in which they asked for some improvement to their qumrters. The Chairm~n stated that he hs~i looked into the matter and h~d found it would take a- bout $225. to m~ke the needed improvements, and he moved that ~n appreprimtion to that amount be referred to the Public Property and Finance committees. The motion was s~iopted. And on motions, the following o~her matters were referred ~o: Finance Committee-- An es- timate of the Se~le~ of Weights & Measures of supplies needed by him. A repo~t of the Auditor~ of cancelle~ coupons durin~ 1~15 to amounts of $6~,208.~0 for the City; $~,106.25 for the Sixth Wa~vd; and $5,~.25 for the Seventh Ward. A petition of the Seventh Wamd Bo~rd for ~n appropriation of $75- to be used as salary of a Sanitary Inspector for the Ward. A communication from the Auditor of Public Accounts in regard to salaries of the Judges of the Circuit and Hustings Courts for the year beginning February l, 1~17.
