<br /> NEW BUSINESS.
<br /> Under this head, the Clerk presented suncLvy papers but, on motion of Mr. Hutchins, they were
<br />referred for consideration of the new Council.
<br /> The Chairman of the Fire~pmmittee stated that one of the horses of the Chambers Fire Engine
<br />had died and he asked for an approprimtion not to exceed $~25. for purchase of a new pair of
<br />horses for the sa~e.
<br /> On motion, the ~ppropriation w~e allowed by the following vote:

<br /> The Chairman of the Fire Committee asked also for authority for his Committee to dispose of
<br />the other horse with the ~sngine, as the remaining horse could not wel2 be pai~ed with the new
<br />h~rse. The authority was granted by the following vote:

<br /> Mr. Montages, Ch~irmsm of the Cemetery Committee, called attention to the fact that there
<br />eve only one or two lots left for sa~s in the Oak Grove Cemetery and he moved that the t~act of
<br />the Tidewmter Realty Co. be purchasea at a cost not to exceed $~0,000.O0.
<br /> ~ir. ~oore (Joe. S.) staSed that he did not think this the proper time to take up that
<br /> matter; that it could be handled better by the new Council; and he moved that action.~s to a~D~w
<br /> cemetery be deferred. The motion was adopted~
<br /> Mr. Morgan stated that the Virginia Railway & Power~Co. c~aimed that the dirt between its
<br /> rails and two feet on each side on streets being paved, belonged to it, and sundry residents were
<br /> making the same claim for-dirt in front of their property under the s~me circumstances.
<br /> He, therefore, moved that the City Attorney be instructed to give his written opinion
<br /> to the Council as to these matters.
<br /> Mr. Nright (E~rl H.) stated that the Chief of Police hsul suivanced $15.66 of his own money
<br /> for special purposes in his Department, as said Department had not yet obtmined a special appro-
<br /> riation of $2 . allowed in the Budget; and he (Nr~ Wright).moved that the SZ~. allowed in.the
<br /> ~udget be madeSmvailable and that the Chief of Police be rezunded the $15.66 advanced by hmm.
<br /> He also asked that an appropriation of $50· be made to meet expenses of the Police Depart-
<br /> ment for the balance of the year.
