<br /> In order to provide miscellaneous supplies for the various Departments of the City, con-
<br />sisting of coa~, wood, rations and supplies for the A~msho~use, medicines, &o., Be It Resolved
<br />by The Council of the ~City of Portsmouth, Va., That the hea~s of various Departments submit to
<br />the CiSy Clerk ~ schedule of eupplies which will be required by their respective Departments
<br />for theuyear beginning January l, l~I~. This information to be f3z~nished ~s early as practi-
<br />cable and not later than October 20th.

<br /> Until such time as the City Council has had an opportunity to investigmte the water pro-
<br /> blems of the City of Portsmouth, Be It Resolved, 7hat the ,present Water Commission be requested
<br /> to continue their organization with a view of makmng a report to the Council 0n the present
<br /> status of the Municipal ~ater Supply.

<br /> Pending the selection of a City Manmger by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Va.,.
<br /> Be It Resolved, That the various City Officers, except the City Clerk and the Assistant to the
<br /> City Clerk (who will be assigned ~irectly under the President of the Council), shall be assign-
<br /> ed to duties under the following heads of Departments:

<br /> Department of Law~. City Attorney, Clerk of the Hustings Court, Commonwealth Attor-
<br /> ney, Judge of Hustings Court, and Uivll & Police Justice.
<br />
<br /> Department of.Public Service: Street ~nepector, City Engineer, Plumbing Inspector,~
<br /> and~Chief Engineer of Sewer Power House.
<br />
<br />Department of Public Property: Clerk of the gasket, Supt. of Public Schools, and
<br /> Sealer of Weights & Measures.
<br />
<br />Department of Public S~fety: Chief of Fire Department, Cit~ Serges~ut, Deputy City
<br /> Sergeant, Chief of Police, ~High Constable.
<br />
<br />Department of Public Welfe~re: Eeeper of Almshouse, ~nitary Insp~ of
<br /> Cemeteries, Physici'~u to the Poor,
<br /> and Bacteriologist.

<br />Department of Finance: Treasurer, City Auditor, City Collector, Deputy City Co!lect-

<br /> The above r~solution to be adopted as~ t~mpora~y arrangement pending modification
<br /> and change as the Council may deem necessary mta future meeting.
