Whereupon, the Finance Committee was instructed to provide said funds and by the fol- lowing vote: , Ayes--Dashiell, Manvey, Herbert, Morgan, Parrish, On motion of Mr. Morg~u, the Law Department was instructed to 9repare and present an dinamce regulating the speed of street cars and other vehicles while passing churches during hours of se~vloe on the sabbath; also to prevent the ringing of bells or blowing of horns by said vehicles or oars during the hours mentioned above. Mr. Herbert moved to refer to the Public Welfare Department to take up the matter of cows which have been sold as unfit for milklng~being-brought into the City to be sold again to the public as first-class beef. The motionwas adotted. On motion of Mr. Dashiell, the Department of Public Safety w~s authorized to advertise for 1,000 feet of fire hose. Mr. Dashiell moved that the Department of Law prepare an ordinance changing the name of the "Almshouse" to the "City Home," and ~o prepare also an ordinance to regulate the erection of buildings, &c. The motion w~s adopted. At this point, ~he President desired to know how ma~y will attend the League of Virginia Munlcipalitt$~ ~t Clifton Forge September 26~28th. Mr. Herbert stated that he would attend and Mr. Morgan stated that he would probably go. On motion of Mr. Morgan, the President was mppointed the others who might be able to go. E~r. Parrish presented a letter from Dr. Joe. Oak Grove Cemetery for $~,O00.00. On motion, said m~tter was referred on same as soon as practicable. to attend said League together with ~thrie offering his property adjoining the the Department of Public Welfare to report And on motions, the following other matters were referred to: Department of Public Service-- A petition of the Business Builders & Real Estate Ex- change, for the City Engineer to run the necessary grade lines for curbing and placing side- walks for three blocks from Se~$nth street to the Gllmerton oar line, aha also two blocks on their property; aud desiring to ascertain also if the City will bear one-half of cost of pav- ing. A petition of H. E. Manning and sundry other citizens for a paved sidewalk on the west side of Armstrong street, between Glasgow and North. A communication from Archibald 0gg calling attention to the condition of Dinwiddie street, south, from between Clifford and Griffin streets to Harrison. A petition of Cheston H. Markham for curbing on the east side of Third street, between Wythe aud H~rrison. (With Board of Health) A communication from G. H. Tucker calling attention to a vacant lot by N6. ll~ ArmsTrong street a~d asking for improvement of condition of same.
