Bids for auditing the books and accounts o£ City Officials as of August 31, 1916; with request that the Department make perfectly clear conditions of bids ~nd report mt next meeting. It is recommended that the ~uditing of said books and accounts be deferred until the City Eau&get is appointed. I~~eoommended that this matter be referred to the Depmmtme~t~of Law. An appropriation of $250. for the erection of a sult~blehouse ~o~be used as a De,sutton House for contagious diseases. It is recommended that this m~ttez be referred to the Department of Public ~elfare. An mppropriation for ~bioycle for the Chie£ of the ~ire~Depa~tment. ~t is recommended that an approprimtion for same be rsfer~ed to t~hs Department of Public Safety for consideration. An mppropriati0n, out of Sixth Ward funds, to install a ~ ~ mt the corner of Tenth avenue and North street, to protect said section. It is recommended thmt this m~tter be referred to the Department of Public Safety and the Sixth Ward Board. A bill of The National Association of comPtrollers and Accounting Officers for ~ths year ending June 30, 1916~ for $10o00. We report that we have instructed the Clerk to write to said firm for information in regard ~o said bill. T. Eawxn ~, ~ma~e ~ antine Commissioner, agminst 'the Board of Quarantine Commissioners. On motion, s~id matter was referzed to the Department of Public Welfmre. NEW BUSINESS. The Chairmmn of the Department of Public Safety presented a communication to him from the Chief of Police, in which smid Chief ~sked thmt an ordinance be passed limiting the number of pawnbfoEer shops in the City to three; and, on motion, said matter was referred to the Depart- ment of Law for ~n ordinance. A resignation of the Board of Park Commissioners w~s read and was accepted, and said re- signation was ordered to file. On recommendation of the Department cf Public Safety, a bill of Minter & Mason to amount of $39.40, for repairs to tSe PatrolI Wagon, was atlowe~. On motion of Mr. D~shiell, the Departmen~ of Public Service and the M~yor were instructed tO take up with the Semboemd Air Line Railway Co. the lowering of its t=~cks on Crawford street. Mr. Moxgan moved that the sidewalks on Washington, Effingham, .Crawfo=d..and~o~her~s~sets where' recent paving has bee~ done~ be repaired, and thmt an appropriation to amount of $1,500. · .be m~de to pay the cost of same. And also that three feet be left ~pen by side of curbing where trees are plmnted on the wide streets, with the exception of business houses. The motion was ~dopted and the appropriation of $1,500. fo= the work was referred to the Finance Department. Mr. Herbert called attention to the fact that there ~s between $7,000. a~d $10,O00. per- sonal property taxes unpmid upon the books of the City Collector and thmt some effort should be marie to collect the same. This resulted in much discussion and finally it wms decided to hmve the Department of Finance go into the mmtter with a view of suggesting some plan for the collection of all ~a~~ ~inqu~.p~r~onml.p~opert~ t~xe~. On motion of ~r. Herbert, the Department of Public Property was instruote~ to t~ke up with the Norfolk County authorities the advisability of laying granolithic pavements in the Court House yard.
