September l~, 1916. <br /> <br /> At a meeting of The Council September 19th there were present: <br /> <br /> Messrs.--Oscie Dashiell, J. T. Hanve¥, C. H. Herbert, <br /> W. D. Morg~, Jno. A. Morris, Chas. T. Parrish, 6. <br /> The Clerk stated that the minutes of the meeting September 12th had not yet been recorded. <br /> <br /> REPORTS OF DEPARTMENTS. <br /> Law-- <br /> Submitted certain ~ddition~l rules for the government of The Council ~ud same were <br />adopted tempora~i!y. <br /> It submitted also the following ordin~noe, which was ordered to lie on the table until the <br />next regular meeting of the body: <br /> An Ordinance Changing the Name cf the City Almshouse to the <br />City Home. <br /> <br /> Public Service-- <br /> An appropriationof $1,200. to ~arb~-mnd gutter Stonewall street, between <br />Green and Chestnut. <br /> Progress as to ss~me. <br /> A petition of the Business Builders & Re~X Estate Exchange ~.the City Engineer to run <br />the necessary g~ade lines for curbing and placing sidewalks for three blocks from Seventh street <br />to the Gilmerton car line, and also two blocks on their property; and desiring to ascertain also <br />i~ the City will bea~ one-hal~ o~ cost of paving. <br /> It is recommended that the City Er~ineer be instructed to run the grade lines, as <br />quested; but we report Progress ms to the other p~rt of the petition. <br /> A petition of H. E. Manning and sundry other citizens for &.paved sidewalk on the west side <br />of Armstrong street, between Glmsgow and North. <br /> We report that an mppropriation for said sidewalk will be considered for ~the Budget <br />of 1917. <br /> A petition of Cheston H~ Ms~vkham for curbing on the east side of Third street, between <br />~ythe and Harrison. <br /> We report that an mppropriation of $165~ will be recommended £or the Budget of 1917 <br />· or this work. <br /> <br /> A commm~io~ion from Archibald Ogg calling attention to..the condition of Dinwiddie street, <br /> south, from between Clifford and Griffin streets to <br /> We report that this matter is being attended to. <br /> (With Board of Health) A communication from G. H. Tucker calling attention to ~ vacant <br /> lot by $11~ Armstrong street ~nd asking for i~p~ovement of condition o~ same. <br /> We repor~ that this matter has been attended to. <br /> <br /> (~ith Pa~k Commission) A petition of t~e Independen~ Fire Company to be.s~llow~d <br /> the playground on Wy~he street for the pUrpose Of holding a ~oarn~val during the wee~ o~ ~epm. <br /> 25th; ~he hedge ~nd trees on said gro~und~ to b~ properly protected by said Company. Ne report that said Company have withdrawn their pe~.tiono <br /> And in this connection, it is recommended that in the ~uture none of the City property <br /> shmll be u-~ed for carnival purposes~ <br /> <br /> . It is further recommended, That the City Engineer be putin cha~ge cZ an~ direct ~he <br /> following named O~.ficers under instructions to ht~ by the Publi~ ~ieetd)~p~rtment: <br /> Inspector, Inspector o~ Plumbing, s~ud Enginesr o~ the Sewer Power He, se; that the of~fioes~ow <br /> used by the Street Inspector and Inspector or'Plumbing be vacated bythem$ and that the office <br /> of the City Engineer be used £or s~ll purposes of t~e Public Service Department. <br /> Further, That the office o$ the Cmty Engmneer be kept open every day in the week <br /> day~excepted~ between the hours o~ ~ A. E. and 5 P. M~ ~ud thmt all ordinances or pa~ts of or- <br /> dinances in co~flict with these instructions be =epeaied, <br /> <br /> On motion, the report o~ the Department was adopted, and by the following vote, the <br /> recommendation that the City Engineer be put in ehmrge or.certain Officers, &c., being referred <br /> to the Department cZ Law to embody in an <br /> Ayes-~Dashieli, Hanvey, Herbert, <br /> Morgau, mo~r~s, P~rrish, <br /> <br /> Public Property-- <br /> .:for~a fire proof door for the old <br /> <br />vault and a steel money <br /> It is recommended tha~ said appropriat <br /> <br /> A communication from the Clerk of the Market calling attention to the condition of the <br />roof of the Vegetable Marke~ shed, and requesting esmly attention to same. <br /> It is recommended that an appropriation of $15~. be allowed to repair oo~dition of <br />said roof. <br /> . Authorized to spend $225. to repair the qumrters of thee Hook & Lad~e~ ~om.pan~f . <br /> It is recommended thmt the Hook & Ladder:C0mpa~y ce mu~hcrized ~o m.a~.e~ne reps~s <br />to amount of $225.00, bills for said work to ba~mpproved by:.~he ~orem~n c~ sal~ ~ompamy anm pre- <br />sented to the City Auditor for payment. <br /> On motion, the repor~ of the Department-was adopted, ~nd by the f~llowing vote, the <br />recommended mpproprimtion for m fire proof door, &c., for the office of the City Collector be- <br />ing referred to the ~inance a~d Public Property committees, and the recommended appropriation <br />for repairs to the rOO~ of the Vegetable Market shed being referred to the Finmnce Committee: <br /> <br /> <br />
