<br />bids for plumbmn~ at fha City.Jail, and permitted to purchase material, employ a plumber, s~ud
<br />have the work done unde~ the supervision of the Plumbing Inspector.

<br /> On motion of Mr. D~shiell, the Clerk was instructed to write to the proper State authori-
<br />ties for permission to use the Grimes Battery Gun Room for storage of automobile, drying room
<br />for hose, &c., as the City h~s immediateuse for said room.

<br /> On motion of Dr. Parrish, the Department of Public Welfare w~$ authorized to ~dvertise
<br />for bids ~or rations at the City Home and medicines for the poor of the City, for the yea~ 1917.

<br /> Dr. Parrish moved to refer to Fins~uce Department an appropriation of $210, to pay a bill
<br />of J. N. Dews for medicines furnished the poor of the City. The motion was adopted.

<br /> Mr. Herbert brought u~ the question of employing a person as cclleetor of delinquent per-
<br />sonal taxes at a fee Of 20% of amount colleotedo
<br /> The matter w~s discussed and Mr. Morgan moved that a man be employed, upon said conditions~
<br />for one month, but the'motiOn w~s lost on a tie.

<br /> Mr. Dashiell sta~ed that the S~nits~ry Inspector wished an appropriatio~ for cleaning up
<br />the-market shed, and the matter was referred to the Public Property Department to take steps
<br />at once to put said market in a sanitary condition.
<br />
<br /> On motion of Mr. Dashiell, the Public Service Department was instructed to investigate
<br />the matter of .h~u2ing deszl horses from the streets.
<br />
<br /> Mr. Herbert' stated that. it w~s reported that certain houses in the Fifth Ward are not con-
<br />nected with the Sewerage S~stem as they should be, and he moved that the mat~er be referred to
<br />the Department of Public Welfare for investigation.

<br /> On motion'of~.~Lv. D~shiell, the advismbility of providing a stove for the Independent Fire
<br />Company and a heater and gas light fo~ the Annex Hose Company was referred to the Public Proper-
<br />ty Department.

<br />Mr. M~rg~n moved that Council meet Friday night to consider applications for City Manager.

<br /> Mr. H~nvey gave a very interesting report of the trip of the'Auditor and himself to the
<br />Lemgue of Virginia Municipalities at Clifton Forge and said he felt that they were profited
<br />by the trip.
<br />

<br />entire length from North street to Spmrrows Hill Brmdge, at a cost not in excess of $2,500.00.
