NGvember 2, 1916. <br /> <br /> At an adjourned-re'gula~ meeting of The Council on the above date the~e were p~esent: <br /> Messrs--Oscie Dashiell, J'. T~ H~uvey, C. H. Herbert, <br /> W. D. gorgon, Chas. T. Parrish, 5- <br /> The first m~tter taken up w~s the'election of a temporary Keeper of the City Cemeteries. _ <br /> Whereupon, Er. Morgan nominated Er. W. H. Dashiell for the posi~tion, and ~he wms elected <br />by the following vote: <br /> ~s-~Dashisii, Hanvey~ Herbert~ Norg~n,~Parrish, 5. <br /> Next, the body to~Up~with the School Boar? the~m~tter of the erection of ~.High School <br />mnd m Oolored School b~i~g and, after discussing the proposition, it wms decided to suggest <br />to the ~chool Board that~'~'advertise for bids for the erec$ion of these buildings. <br /> Mr. Dashiell presented m petition from the Portsmouth Library Association, asking that <br />the roof and oh~mueys of the building occupied by it be repaired. <br /> On motion, the~Publie Property Department-was authorezed to advertise for b~ds for <br /> the work and report on same at the next meeting of the Councit~ <br /> He presented also a communication from the Clerk of the Market calling attention to the <br /> unsanitary condition of the Vegetable Market. <br /> On motion, said communication w~s referred to the Public Property Department to con- <br /> sider m~t~e previous action on the subject of the Market. <br /> The attention o~ the body w~s called to a crack in the Confederate ~o~ument on Court street <br /> ~nd, on motion, the Public Property Department was authorized to'have Er. Archibald Ogg ex~mine <br /> the condition of the monument and the Chairman of said Department to report to the Council mhe <br /> result of smid exs~mination. <br /> <br />On motion, ad~jou~ned. <br /> <br />November 3, 1916. <br /> <br /> A special meeting of The Council w~s held November 3rd for a conference with Er. C. Fred <br />Bonney, District ~anager of The Chesapeake & Potomac Telephone Company concerning telephone <br />service in this City. <br /> And to receive m report from the Finance Department as to an appropriation to meet expenses <br />of the Co~mittes leaving the City with regard to selection of'a City Eauage~. <br /> <br /> Those present were: <br /> Messrs.- Osc~i~ Dashiell~ J. T. Hanvey, C. H. Herbert, <br /> W. D. Mo~g~n, Ohms. T. Parrish, 5- <br /> <br /> Mr. Bonney and othe~s representing the Telephone Compmny were present.
