<br />lowing checks to the credit of the General Account: Check payable to H. L. Hudgins, Treasurer,
<br />dated November 1~, $1,370.O0, for mmount returned account 19~5, City of Portsmouth, Aocc~zut of

<br /> The Chairm~n Of the Public Safety.Department stated that his Department needed $250. to
<br />pmy back Police bills and $25. for Contingent for the Chief of Police.
<br /> On motion, said appropriations were referred to the Finance Department.

<br /> On motion of Nr. Dashiell, the City Attorney was instructed to give his written opinion
<br />as to what the City is required to furnish the City Jail, material for the Jailer's use, sal-
<br />a~ries, &c. ~

<br /> The resignation of Nr. W. T. Bunting as a member of the City council was presented and
<br />was accepted,~but the Clerk was instructed to express to Nr. Bunting the regret of the body~
<br />ihdiviiually and collectively, for the necessity for his resignation,
<br />
<br /> Mr. Dashiell called attention to an obstruction built on First street and moved that the
<br />City Attorney be instructed to give his written opinien as to what ohstruOtions are permissible
<br />on the streets, according to law. The motio~ was adopted.

<br /> At this point, Mr. Herbert suggested that the Co~ncil fill the vacaucy on ~the body caused
<br />by the resignation of Er. W~ T. Bunting.
<br /> Er. Norris said he thought that the ~acancy should be filled at some future meeting.
<br /> Whereupon, ~r. Herbert moved that the Council meet next Friday night, December 1st, to
<br />fill the va~ansies in offices necessary to he filled. The motion~wms adopted.
