94-465 - Letter from the City Manager recommending adoption
an ordinance to close a number of streets and lanes in the
PortCentre area.

of

"The Planning Commission has made recommendations to
Council to close a number of streets, lanes and alleys in the
area of PortCentre. The closure of these streets will provide a
site for a potential commercial development. These streets and
alleys include portions or all of Wavy Street, Randolph Street,
Henry Street, Third Street; Ruth Brown Avenue and two lanes
and/or alleys.

I, therefore, recommend the adoption of this ordinance to
close the streets, lanes and alleys in this area as recommended
by the Planning Commission."
94-466 - Letter from the City Manager recommending adoption of
an ordinance to amend the Code of the City of Portsmouth,
Virginia, by amending Section 30-237(b), pertaining to Police
and Fire service retirement allowances.

"Effective July 1, 1994 City Council extended a $200 a
month supplement to members of the Portsmouth Fire and Police
System and Portsmouth Supplemental Retirement System from age 62
to age 65. This supplement only applies to those members who
retire under Normal Service Retirement.

Inadvertently, the subsequent sections to be excluded from
the $200 a month supplement in the Fire and Police Retirement
System were numbered incorrectly. In order to correct this
error, it is necessary to adopt an ordinance to amend Section
30-237(b) of the Retirement section of the City Code to clarify
application of the service retirement allowance.

I, therefore, recommend your adoption of this ordinance."
