Public Safety-- No No report. report o Public Welfare-- The Chairman presented bids for extending a brick w~ll and wire fence on the west side of Oak Grove Cemetery, as follows: NJ C. Taylor, $480J00; J. E. Hanrahan & Co., $1~62.O0~ He recommended that award for ss~me be made to W. C. Taylor, and the recommendation was adopted by the following vote: Ayes--Dashiell, Hanvey, Herbert, Morris, Morgan, Pmrrish, 6. Fi nanc e-- Referred December l~th. An appropriation to increasers, the salaries of the Assistant Engineers at the Sewer Power House from $75- to $85. per month. We report that this matter will be_disposed of by the Budget ofj~91?. To give the City's note for $15,000. to H._ L. Alexander for his property for the extension of Hatton s~reet. Progress as to same. An appropriation to increase the salary of W. G. Gray, street paver, to $3.50 p~r day. It is recommended that this matter be referred tothe City Manage=. An appropriation t6 increase the salary of the Chief Engineer at the Sewer Power House to $i10. per month. We report that an increase is recommended in the Budget for the Chief Engineer of the Sewer Power House. A petition of the Police Force for an increase in sa~lary. We report that this matter is referred to in the Budget of 191~. Reports of Officers for the month of November, 1916. We report that said reports have been exmmined and it is recommended that they be filed (With Public Welfare Department) A petition of The Association for the Porto~mouth Home for the Aged that the annual appropriation for the Home be placed in the Budget of 1917, amd that the present appropriation be increased to $75. per month. It is recommended that the appropriation remmin as for. last year.~ (With Public S~fety Department) A petition of N..B. Sykes, firem~n, to-:be paid for five days lost from duty on account of a sp~&lned ankle October-28th to No~ember 2nd. P2ogress. A petition from the Board of Directors of' King's Daughters Hospital that the appropriation mmd~e by the City to the Hospital be increased to $200. per month. It is recommended that the a~propriation remain as for l~st year. A petition of the City Collector that $25. be refunded E. H. and Maggie May Nelson, paid in error for ta~x~s~.on property on Washington street, $1200. value. It is reco~m~ended that said amount be refum~ed s~id pa~ties. A petition of L. A. McLemore to be refunded $1.80, paid in error for soil tax for the year 1916 on N~. 1702 County. St., Sixth Ward. ~Prog~ess. A petition of the School Board calling attention to the fact that it will need with which to pay running exper~es of the Schools for the month of December. It is recommended that the said amount be a~liowed, less the amount now on ~haud to credit~ of the Schools, which is $$,O00.00. A bill of F. J. McGuire to amount of $3,258.O3, f~r constructing Rocmao pavement on Ef~ing- h~m s.nd Queen ~treets. Progress. (With ~Publio Service Department) A petition of the firemen at the Sewerage Pump Station for an increase in Ne report that this m~tter is disposed of in the Budget. (With Public Service Department) A petition of the Sanitary Inspector for an increase in pay, enclosing recommendations, &c. We report that ~n increase for the ~nitary Inspector is recommended in the Budget. A communication from The Natio~l Bs~nk of Commerce of Norfolk advising that certain coupons detached from bonds of the City of Portsmouth have been reported lost in the m~il, and request- ing the Council to authorize the payment of said coupons upon execution by said Bank of a satis- factory bond to protect the City of Por~smou~h.~ It is recommended that Council authorize the payment of said coupons to said Ba~k, the usual course to be pursued in the payment.
