January 12, 191?. citizens of the City that the block on ~ifth street, between Fayette and Jefferson, be paved, were referred to the Public Service Depemtment. A notice was re~d from the Secretary of Chambers Fire Company that Er. E. M. Richardson was elected Engineer of said Company on January 11, 1917. On motion, said notice was referred to the City An invitmtion w~s res~i from the Portsmouth Volunteer Firemen's Association for the Council to be present at a speci~l meeting of said Association Friday, January 12th, at S-o'clock P. s~nd, on motion, s~id invitation was accepted with th~nks. A requisition of the Board of ~s~bor Commissioners on the City of Portsmouth to amount of $$75.00, for the expenses of said Board for t~e quarter endingDecemBer 3I,'191~, w~$.referred tO ~he Depsmtment of Finance. Abill of F. J. ~cGuire to amount of $3,258.0~, for constructing Rocmac pavement on Erring- ham and Queen streets, was re-referred to the Finance Department. Mr. Morgan moved to refer to the Departmen~ of Finance an appropriation of $~00. for.the extension of London street to Ninth avenue. The motion was adoptS. · hs Chairman of the Department of Public Service presented the following r~ecommendation from the said Department: "In order that the whole City may derive the benefits of the con- centration of authority, and i-n view of the fact ~hmt numerous complaints are being received which are not corrected ms expeditiously now as they should b~,._your Public ServiceDepartment respectfully recommends that on and mfter February let, 191?,-the execution of all street work heretofore psrf6rme~ by the.
