<br /> On motion of Mr; Herbert, the ~ivisabillty of placing a light on Griffin street, between
<br />Chestnut and Pine, ~s re~erred to the Public ~fety Department.

<br /> At this point, Mr. ~'orris called up the m~tter of recommended incr~ses in salaries for
<br />oertmin City Officers in the Budget of 19t?, considermtion of which was unfinished at meeting
<br />of the Council Js~u~vy 12th.

<br /> The City Clerk asked ~o have his name t~ken from the list recommended for an increase, end
<br />the request ~s g~anted.
<br />
<br /> ~he recommende~ increase of salary for the Civil & Police Justice wes not allowed,
<br />~ud by the following vote:
<br /> Ayes--Me,tis, 1.
<br /> Nays--Dashiell¥ H~nvey, Herbert, Morgam, ~.

<br />Herbert moved to adjourn, but the motion was lost.

<br /> ~. Morgan moved that the s~lary of the Plumbing Inspector be increased from $100. to $125.
<br />per month, with the understanding that, i~ m~ldition to the inspection work, he is to do such
<br />City plumbing as mmy be assigned him by the City Manager, as per ~ecommend~tion by ~is Depart-

<br /> The matter wms discussed, when Er. Morgan noted that the-Plumbing Inspector was present
<br />~nd moved that the privilege of the floor be granted him to spe~k with regard to the matter.
<br /> The Plumbing Inspector stated that he is not willing to accept the recommended in-
<br />creese on the conditionm n~med, and no further action w~s tat~en on same.

<br />to Spend, when he th~n~.? it necessary, more than one-~welfth monthly of the funds of a Depart-
<br />men~ e~llowed by =esomm~mon, provided he does not exee'~d during the year the yearly appropria-
<br />tion for such Depa~vtment.
<br /> The General N~nage~ explained the m~tter more fully, shewing that he could often save
<br /> considerable amounts ~or the City by.using his~judg~e~t for such expenditures. ~

<br /> Mr. Da~h~ell stated that the jail roof is i~ bad condition ss to its ra~ters and should be
<br /> mttended to at once, and he moved that the City Manager be authorized to employ some one to in-
<br /> spect the roof aud submit bids for the repai~ of same. The motion wes adopted.
<br /> Mr. Dmshiell stated also that there has been much complaint lately about the coalition of
<br /> street !iEhts, end he moved t9 refer to the City Manager the question of having the Electrical
<br /> Inspector Ma. ko sm examination of the lights-mhd report.
<br /> The motion was adopted.
<br /> On motion of Mr. Dashielt, ~he sdvismbility of h~ving broad white lines marked on the street
<br />at the corner of Court a~ud High streets to indicate t~e line of trmffic for automobiles to stop,
<br /> was referred to the City Man,ger.
<br /> M~. Morga~ moved.that the City Aitorney be instruc$~ to draft s contract With Messrs.
<br /> Besztey & Blanford for hs~uling trmsh mnd gtrbage in the mty, in accordance with conditions of
<br /> its bid ~herefor, with the proviso that specifications for the cen~ract include further m~tters
<br /> contained in the !otter of said firm te the City Manager; and that ~he City Ma~ger be requested
<br /> to returm a~li certified checks given with bids for said work.

<br /> A petition was read from sund~y proper~y owners and voters of the Sevenths'Nard~ asking that
<br /> the Council rescind its recent action in abolishing the Seventh ~?ard Improvement Board.
<br /> Whereupon, Mr. Herbert moved that the body reconsider its previous action ~s to abolish-
<br /> ing the Sixth s~d Seventh Nard Improvement Boards.
