<br /> AN ORDINANCE PRESCRIBING THE DUTIES OF THE ELECTRICAL INSPECTOR AND ADOPTING THE NATIONAL
<br />ELECTRIC~L CODE AS REG~ULATING SUCH DUTIES, ~D FIXING A SCHEDULE OF INSPECTION FEES.

<br /> Whereupon~ Mr. Daehiel! stated that the ordinance does not provide as to who ~is to re-
<br />ceive fees, &c. ~nd he moved that the ordinance be amended by addin~ the followin~ara-~aoh:
<br />"The Electrical Inspector Upon the ~e~e~pt of the application ~n due form, sha~ll make up a
<br />stmteme~t of the charges to be paid by the applicant to the City Collector in accordance with
<br />the schedule of charges as set forth in this ordin~uoe, ~nd upon the production of the receipt
<br />of the City Collector that such cha~ges have been paid he shall, with the ~pproval of the City
<br />Manager, issue to the applica~ut a permit to do the work.~
<br /> The amendment was ~iopted,

<br /> Then the ordinance wms adopted, as ~mended, and by the following vote:

<br /> The regular report of Officers for the month of February, l~ly, were presented ~nd were or-
<br />dered to ta~e the usual course.

<br /> A reporm was rea~i f~om Robt. J. Walker, Public Account, on his recent audit of the City
<br />accounts, b~oks, &c.~
<br /> Mr. Norris moved that the several reco~nendations in the report be referred to the
<br />C~ty Manmger. The motion was adopted.

<br /> An invi{~tion was rossi from the Portsmouth Hook & Ladder Co,'to attend a smoker to be
<br />given by said Company in its headquarters on the occasion of its annual meeting April 2nd, at
<br />~ o'clock; a~d same was accepted, with thanks,

<br /> A petition of residents on Armstrong street, between B and Holladay, for improvement of
<br />the sidewalk in front of their respective homes, w~s referred to the Public Service Department.
<br />
<br /> A bill of the Clerk of Court to amount of $3.50, for recording a deed from N. To Torbert
<br />and wife to the City, was referred to ~inanoe Department.
<br />
<br /> Bills of the Board of Water Commissloners to amount of ~125.37~ for the month of January,
<br />1~17, were referred to the Finance Dspmrtment,

<br /> A request was read from the School Board for the. Council to t~ke favorable action on its
<br />request for an appropriation to increase teachers salaries, and same was referred to the Depart-
<br />ment of Finance.

<br /> A bill of the Probation Officer for Oolored People to amount of $19.45, for the month of
<br />Janizary, w~s referred to the Department of Finance.
<br />
<br /> An mpplication was rea~ from Chas, ~. King to f~ll the ~aDancy on the Council,
<br />the resignation therefrom of Dr. Chas, T. Pa~rlsh.
<br /> ~Lr. Herbert moved that the body go into an election tb fill said vacancy.
<br /> The motion was mdopted.
<br /> Whereupon, Mr. Bunting nominated M, P. Claud for the position; ~tr. Morris,

<br />auditing the accounts and books o£ the City, as per ag~eement; and on motion, same w~s allowed
<br />by the following vote:

<br /> The Chairman of the Department of Finance presented also a bill of Tee Merchants & Farmers
<br />Ba~k to amount of $566.50, for interest on Bonds, and'moved that same be paid, out of "Interest"

<br /> A statement was read from the Auditor that the
<br />and Costs, in connection with his work for the City,

<br />City owes F. J. McGuire $62.32 for Interest
<br />and said amount ;vas ~llowed to pay Mr.

<br /> The Chairman of the Department of Finance presented a petition of Policeman Thcs. A. Tal-
<br />bot to be paid for time lost from duty Emrch 3~llth~ inclusive, on account of a sprained knee,
<br />a~d moved that said petition be paid out of Police funds.
<br /> Er. Dashiell moved to amend, that said petition be referred to the Department of Public
<br />Smfety. The amen~Lment was adopted.

<br />Mr, Herbert moved that two flags be purchased 2or the City, one to be placed on the City
