R. C. P. April 10, 1917 At a regular meeting of the City Council April lOth there were present: Nessrs--T. A. Bunting, N. P. Claud, Oscle Dashiell, J. T. Hanvey, C. H. Herbert, Jno. To amend the ordinance with regard to electric installation so as to prohibit the Electric Light Co. from furnishing current in case sm installation is condemned by the Electrical In- spector. It is recommended that the following ordinance be ~dopted to cover the same: An Ordinance to Require the Electrical Inspector to ~ake Inspection of Electrical Appli~~ antes Where Electricity-is Used, to Condemn the Same if Unfit for Use, and to Notify the Elec- tric Light Company to Discontinue the Current When so Conde~nedo To draft an ordinance with regard to one of the Justices of the Peace acting ms Clerk to the Civil & Police Justice ~nd Clerk to the Chief of Police. It is recommended that the following ordinance be ~dopt~d therefor: An Ordinance Providing ~or the Appointment of a Clerk to the Civil ~nd Police Justice ~nd to the Chief of Police. Advisability of mn ordinance requiring persons installing electrical work to take out a license and fils a bond. Progress ms to same, [Sig~ed) Jnoo A. Norris, Chairman. On motion, the report of the Department w~s adopted, the recommended ordinances being ordered to tie on the table, under the rules. Pubiic Service-- No report. Public Property-- verbal report therefor: The Department ~ubmitted no written report, but submitted the folmowin~ Referred March 27th. ~ Advisability of muthorizing The Ferries Company to make a fixed e~ud adequate charge for a~lditlonal service rendered by said Company in carrying vehicles weighing more than 6,000 lbs. It is recommended that this Department with the City Nanmger be authorized to con- fer with m~co~mittee from the Board of Supervisors in the matter. Report of the committ~e mppointed by the Judge of the Hustings Jail. Progress as to same. T. A. Bdnting, Chairman. Court to examine the City On'motiOn, the report of the Department was adopted. Public S~fety-- Referred Na~ch 27th. (~th City Manager) A petition of Niss Ethel Only and sundry others to be re-imbursed for losses sustained by a fire which occurred Earth y, 191y, at the southwest corner of Dinwiddie ~nd King streets. Your Department desires to say that they have examined this petition carefully, be- lieve that the losses have been sustained by said petitioners, as we hea~tly sympathize with them for such losses, aud we believe each individual member of the Council feels with us, but, as we can find no lmw to authorize ~nd no precedent o~ the former councils to make such compen- sation, we regretfully recommend that the petition be not granted.
